You will work closely with our senior partners and associates, conduct legal research, draft documents, and maintain client files. Responsibilities: • Keep files organized to make sure the most recent updates are accessible to other attorneys, paralegals, and staff • Analyze conflicts in legal matters, advise clients on solutions, and negotiate on behalf of clients • Attend court hearings or other legal proceedings, perform legal research, and work with senior associate attorneys to provide legal advice • Collaborate with clients and senior associates and other staff to move cases toward resolution efficiently • Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings • Appear in court when appropriate and necessary upon completion of training • Researching and drafting motions, legal memoranda, and briefs under the supervision of the firm's trial attorneys • Second chairing trials and motion hearings in criminal defense and civil protection order cases • Assisting in case investigations • Communicating with clients effectively and with empathy Qualifications: • Has a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school • Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving skills needed in order to work with all levels of staff and our clients • Candidates must have passed the bar exam • Willingness to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base • Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association) • Licensed to practice in Maryland required; additional license in DC and/or VA license a plus • High priority is given to someone with previous experience in the Maryland criminal legal system • Self-starter looking to gain significant experience in criminal and DUI defense • Passionate about fighting injustices in the criminal legal system • Spanish fluency is a major plus Compensation: $85,000 - $105,000
