    Job brief

    The AE-R&D Department at one of our clients is looking for a creative Junior and Senior Mechanical Engineer/Scientist to work on new product development and product improvements in the general areas of noise, acoustics, vibration, and shock attenuation and isolation solutions. These new and improved products shall lead to design and analysis, prototyping, testing and production for the company’s wide range of customers. The Junior/Senior Engineer and Scientist should have a strong background and specialize in design and FEA simulations with knowledge of rubber formulation and testing procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Active participation in and/or leading the development of new and innovative solutions
    • Active participation in identification of products needing improvement
    • Planning each project (new development or improvement) from design to production
    • Active participation in securing external funds for new development and improvement projects
    • Designing systems and components that meet customer requirements
    • Designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and interpreting results for each new product and improvement project
    • Identifying, formulating and producing effective solutions to emerging problems
    • Evaluating product performance, reliability, durability and safety
    • Estimating budget and scope of project
    • Active participation in and/or leading preparation of internal and external project reports and documentation
    • Active participation in and/or leading preparation of journal and conference papers
    • Working with engineering and sales staff on potential new opportunities
    • Mentoring and leading Advanced Engineering Department staff
    • Travel: domestic: 15% to 20% and international: 5% to 10%

    Requirements

    • A mechanical engineering degree with focus on design and simulation of dynamic systems from accredited engineering school
    • Master or Ph. D. degree in mechanical engineering or material science/engineering with focus on simulations from accredited engineering school3 to 5-year work experience in related technologies, solutions, & products
    • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and FEA modeling and analysis
    • Strong creativity and analytical skills
    • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner\
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • US Citizenship preferred, Green Card with path toward citizenship could be acceptable

    Preferred

    • 3 to 5-year experience working with ANSYS (or other commercial packages)
    • 3 to 5-year experience in securing external funding
    • 3 to 5-year experience in securing funds from SBIR, STTR, and OTAAE-R&D Department at Shock Tech, Inc.
    • 3 to 5-year experience in securing government funds (grants or contracts)
    • 3 to 5-year experience in preparation and submission of product development proposal
    • 3 to 5-year experience in R&D projects3 to 5-year experience in proposal writing/submitting in response to RFQs and RFPs
    • 3-year experience in receiving external funds for product development and R&D
    • 3-year experience in preparing and submitting proposals to external funding sources
    • Solid understanding of core concepts including elastomer formulation and design, rubber to metal bonding mechanics, materials science, etc.
    • 3 to 5-year experience in elastomeric formulation and design in an industry environment
