Special Education Para Professional Job Summary

We are seeking a talented, motivated person to join our programs as a Special Education Para Professional. As a vital part of our program, you will work in conjunction with the teacher and specialists to provide individual and group support for students with specific, individual educational needs including behavioral and mental health needs. Strong interpersonal communication skills and a patient, positive attitude are a must.

Special Education Para Professional Duties and Responsibilities

• Able to communicate and discuss assigned duties with teachers and effectively coordinate instructional efforts
• Organize and prepare materials such as lesson materials, bulletin boards, exhibits, equipment, etc.
• Assist and tutor children individually and in small groups under teacher’s guidance to help master material and reinforce learning
• Provide behavioral management support
• Oversee students in classrooms, other areas on campus, and field trips
• Follow and enforce school rules
• Observe and record student performance as requested to assess progress
• Organize classroom and materials
• Participate in staff meetings and committees

Special Education Para Professional Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Proven experience working with children of school age
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Assist the teacher in planning and implementing activities with children
• Follow basic principles of childhood development
• Establish and maintain effective, working relationships with children, parents, and staff
