    Position Overview

    Seasonal Project Assistant – Marketing & Development

    Starting $20.00 hourly / 20-25 hours per week

    Applications will be accepted through August 25, 2025, with rolling review of candidates.

    As part of the Foster Success team, the Seasonal Project Assistant – Marketing & Development will work with the Development & Communications team at Foster Success, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that supports teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care.

    Development & Communications oversees all fundraising initiatives, including events, grant writing, major gifts and annual giving, and all external and internal marketing and communications strategies, including advertising, content creation, media relations, public affairs, social media and the website.

    The Project Assistant’s focus will be on executing social media marketing campaigns and assisting in the development and successful implementation of program-related communications plans and activities in support of Foster Success’s goals, mission, and Strategic Plan, which has put an emphasis on implementing a clear marketing and communications strategy. Additionally, the Project Assistant will support Donor & Volunteer Relations by serving as a voice and face of Foster Success when making calls, writing thank-you notes, and doing outreach with donors and volunteers.

    This position offers hybrid opportunities. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Development, with some oversight from the Communications Coordinator.

    Organization Overview

    Foster Success is committed to improving the foster care system and ensuring that teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care are educated, housed, financially stable, employed, and connected to a support system by age 26. Our team accomplishes this through program delivery, policy change, and partnership development in the areas of secondary and post-secondary education, workforce development, health and well-being, financial empowerment, housing stability, and youth engagement.

    Primary Responsibilities

    65% - Marketing & Communications

    • Implements social media plan by creating and scheduling content across all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.)

    • Monitor comments/messages and respond accordingly.

    • Work with all departments to create and enhance programs staff marketing needs.

    • Review/edit program-related information and send e-blasts related to upcoming deadlines, events, surveys, etc.

    • Request information from program staff as needed.

    • Assists in creation of YouTube channel and video uploads.

    • Work closely with the Development & Communications team on future communications plans.

    25% - Donor & Volunteer Relations

    • Complete various tasks in Salesforce, including gift entry, working on donor Action Plans (tasks), documenting calls and other stewardship activities.

    • Work on meaningful ways to thank donors, including generating gift acknowledgement letters, handwriting "thank you" cards, making "thank you" videos in Gratavid, calling donors to thank them, etc.

    • Correspond with volunteers and prospective volunteers, mainly through email but occasionally via phone or text messaging

    • Assist in creating a scheduling mechanism for volunteers

    • Assist in creating and outline and content for monthly/quarterly newsletters targeted to volunteers

    • Help manage and orient volunteers during group opportunities

    • Assist the Development team with research projects, clerical support, and other duties as assigned.

    10% - Special Fundraising Event

    • Assist with the planning, set up and execution of our fall signature fundraising event, Taste of Thanks.

    • Ensure corporate partners are highlighted effectively via social media as it relates to each event.

    • Some evenings and/or weekends required to work organizational events.

    Requirements:

    • Experience or work in marketing, strategic communications, public relations, fund development or related field.

    • Some experience creating content and managing various professional social media accounts.

    • Some experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets and developing communication materials.

    • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills and experience with and knowledge of relevant software, particularly Zoom, Google, and Microsoft Products. Intermediate knowledge in Canva. Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite and/or Salesforce is a plus.

    • Creative, enthusiastic, and willing to work with a team of collaborative and successful marketing, communications and development strategies.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.

    • Ability to provide meticulous detail and maintain confidentiality, as well as reliability (both attendance and consistency of performance)

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some weekends and/or evenings to meet organizational goals.

    • Have reliable transportation for work-related travel, which may include access to a personal vehicle, public transit, rideshare, or rental options as needed.

    • All team members are required to pass a background check and undergo fingerprint screening.
