    About the Position

    As a Seasonal Safety & Security Officer at Mt. Cuba Center, you'll play a vital role in creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our guests and staff. This position combines security oversight with guest service, requiring excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to safety. You'll patrol our beautiful grounds while assisting with guest needs and supporting special events.

    Essential Functions:

    Safety & Security Operations

    • Monitor access to the site for employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors
    • Ensure only authorized personnel have access to restricted areas
    • Monitor security camera systems (CCTV) to detect and respond to suspicious activity
    • Conduct regular patrols throughout Mt. Cuba Center's premises to identify security risks
    • Provide first response in emergency situations using CPR, AED, and First Aid skills
    • Respond promptly to security breaches, alarms, or emergencies such as fire, theft, or medical incidents
    • Monitor and maintain safety equipment and supplies, including fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and safety alarms
    • Document daily activities, incident reports, and security concerns accurately
    • Enforce site security policies, ensuring compliance with regulations and organizational standards
    • Conduct safety inspections of buildings, facilities, and public spaces to identify hazards
    • Ensure proper closing procedures and guest departure
    • Conduct compliance audits and inspections
    • Provide staff training on emergency procedures and safety protocols as directed

    Guest Services

    • Deliver exceptional customer service through friendly, professional interactions
    • Provide golf cart transportation for guests and staff when needed
    • Answer questions and assist with guest needs
    • Maintain crowd control and ensure the safety of guests during events
    • Support parking operations and traffic management
    • Assist with program and event setup/breakdown
    • Provide visible security presence to deter potential threats and reassure staff and visitors

    Emergency Response

    • Assist in implementing emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire drills, and crisis management protocols
    • Maintain effective communication with security personnel, site managers, and other departments
    • Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services as needed
    • Respond effectively to emergency situations to minimize harm or damage

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field preferred
    • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field preferred
    • Must be 21 years of age or older
    • Valid driver's license required with ability to pass MVR check
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to security and public safety
    • Ability to obtain within 30 days of hire:
      • First Aid, AED, and CPR certification
      • Delaware Alcoholic Beverage Server Certification
    • Strong decision-making, judgment, and problem-solving skills
    • Excellence in customer service and communication (written and verbal)
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to emergencies
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
    • Proficiency in using security-related technology, including surveillance systems
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
    • Bilingual skills preferred but not required

    Physical Requirements:

    • Regular standing for extended periods
    • Frequent walking on hills and uneven terrain
    • Ability to lift, push, or pull objects up to 40 pounds
    • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions

    Schedule and Compensation:

    • Seasonal position (April to December)
    • Average 20 hours per week
    • Tuesday - Sunday availability required
    • Shift times between 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
    • Up to four 10-hour shifts per week
    • Early morning, evening, and special event coverage as needed
    • Hourly rate: $17.00 per hour
