    Responsibilities

    Description: This position requires a person who will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the St. Joseph County Public Defender’s Office. This person will work closely with and under the supervision of the Department Chief, Deputy Chiefs and Department Administrator.

    Organizing and Filing: Maintain and update legal case files, insuring they are properly organized and easily accessible.

    Correspondence: Prepare and manage legal correspondence, including letters, emails, and memos.

    Document Preparation: Type and format legal documents, motions, and other court filings.

    Office Equipment: Operate office equipment, including computers, printers, and copiers.

    Communication: Provide both verbal and written communication, support to attorneys and public defense clients.

    Qualifications

    Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Office Site, and excellent communication skills; working knowledge of St. Joseph County e-filing systems and governmental operation is preferred.

    Background Check: Must pass a criminal background investigation.

    Education/Experience


    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: Previous experience in a legal or administrative setting is preferred.
