    Job Description

    We are seeking a Security Coordinator to join our team here at Near North Montessori School!

    Position Overview:
    Provide competent safety and security services for the Near North Montessori (NNM) school community with an emphasis on customer service. Work closely with the Operations Director and other NNM teams to implement and update effective safety and security policies and procedures. Responsible for overseeing the drop off and carpool processes during the school year and summer camp, patrolling entrances and campus grounds, and general oversight of the security programs and operations.

    _ Schedule:_ 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, with an 8:00am to 4:00pm shift with adjustments or additional time as needed. This role will work regular scheduled hours throughout the summer.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Assist Operations Director in the maintenance and updates of safety and security policies, procedures and equipment for the school community, building and overall campus
    • Develop and implement the Crisis Management Plan, Fire Drill Procedures, and Pick-Up/Drop-Off document - updating all documents on an annual basis at a minimum and adding others as necessary
    • Monitor school calendar to ensure appropriate security coverage. Monitor and arrange shift activities of reception and security personnel according to the needs of the school and makes changes to the schedule as necessary
    • Patrol school building, grounds, carpool areas, parking lot, playground, surrounding streets and alleys that are of concern to the school's safety and security
    • Provide emergency preparedness for the community through effective policy and procedure planning, training and other work
    • Respond to incidents that require a security or safety presence; maintain a calm demeanor working to de-escalate conflicts that may occur
    • Lead and direct the drop off and pick up processes around the school, creating schedules and assigning staff members to various roles and places as needed
    • Help maintain cleanliness of the building and ground daily while patrolling the campus
    • Maintain contact and access to communication with School staff via 2-way radio, cellular phone and/or other device; is a contact on the School's emergency call list
    • Respond to requests and provide communication related to safety and security by School Administrators, staff, parents, and other visitors to NNM
    • Provide reception desk coverage as needed
    • Provide training for any security personnel including independent contractors, volunteers, staff members or other who assist with drop-off, pick-up and carpool and those who staff reception areas for evening events and activities
    • Attend conferences, seminars and other professional meetings or networking events to stay up to date in the areas of safety and security of occupants and the physical plant and grounds
    • Conduct investigations and create incident reports of all incidents involving the security and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors including thefts, threats, break-ins, property damage and injuries on campus (and supervision lapses) within 48 hours of the incident. Provide timely summaries and updates of events and concerns to the Operations Director and Head of School
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Bachelor degree preferred or equivalent level of work experience

    • Three (3)+ years working in the security or related field
    • Prior experience creating safety related policies & procedures
    • Knowledge of basic methods of providing site security and safety - ability to apply those to an organization's specific needs
    • Ability to use computers, security systems, communication devices (for example 2-way radios) and general office equipment
    • Demonstrated ability to work with elementary age students and families in maintaining a positive and safe school culture
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills along with patience and a customer-friendly attitude; ability to resolve conflict effectively
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail and ability to execute multiple tasks with changing priorities
    • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly diagnose or escalate to solve issues
    • Recent experience working in a diverse education environment or youth organization is a plus

    Additional Information

    Pay Information: The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 based on skills and experience.
