Security Dispatcher – Job Description
The Security Dispatcher is a vital member of the Healthcare Security Team, responsible for coordinating communication between security officers, staff, emergency services, and other departments. The dispatcher monitors security systems, manages radio and phone communications, and ensures timely response to incidents to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Communication & Dispatching:
Monitor and respond to all radio traffic, phone calls, and security-related communications in a timely and professional manner.
Dispatch security personnel to incidents, emergencies, and routine patrols across Health facilities.
Maintain constant communication with on-duty security officers to track their status and location.
Alarm & Surveillance Monitoring:
Monitor security cameras (CCTV), access control systems, and intrusion/fire alarms.
Log and report any unusual activity, system malfunctions, or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
Incident Reporting & Documentation:
Accurately document all calls, incidents, and officer activities using the security dispatch software/system.
Generate shift logs and assist in compiling incident reports, ensuring all documentation is clear, complete, and in compliance with Health policies.
Emergency Response Coordination:
Act as the central communication point during emergencies (e.g., medical incidents, fire alarms, threats, or disturbances).
Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, and medical responders when required, following Health emergency protocols.
Access Control & Support:
Assist with managing access to secured areas by verifying credentials or remotely unlocking doors when authorized.
Respond to staff requests for assistance with safety concerns, lockouts, or suspicious activity.
Customer Service & Professionalism:
Provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality, especially when dealing with sensitive medical or personal information.
Treat all patients, visitors, and staff with respect and compassion in accordance with Health’s mission and values.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Prior experience in a dispatch, security, or emergency communications role preferred
Proficient with computers, surveillance systems, and radio communication protocols
Strong multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, sound decisions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Health standards
Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a healthcare or hospital setting
CPR/First Aid certification
Valid security guard card/license (if applicable in your jurisdiction)
Familiarity with security dispatch software or incident management systems
