    Job Summary

    We are seeking a professional Security Officer to join our team. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to create a safe and secure environment. You will protect our premises, assets, congregation, and employees and prevent any illegal or inappropriate occurrences. The ideal candidate has experience with public safety and security and operates with a high degree of integrity at all times.

    Introduction

    The mission of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people. The work of Bethel AME Church is broad reaching and results in serving the community daily through regularly scheduled services/activities and special initiatives.

    The Church Security Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, security and well-being of church staff, congregation and visitors while maintaining a welcoming and peaceful environment. The primary responsibility is to protect church members, staff, and visitors from potential threats and harm, which can include not only violence, but also emergencies such as fires and medical incidents, like heart attacks. This involves prioritizing the well-being of the congregation and demonstrating a strong commitment to their protection.

    The secondary priority of the position is to assist in any emergencies such as medical, fire, gas leak, power outage, missing child, or natural disaster. The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Pastor and indirectly to the Protems of the Trustee Board.

    Responsibilities

    Regularly patrolling and monitoring the church premises inside and outside and other church properties to identify and address any potential security risks or threats

    Maintain order and establish presence.

    Respond to incidents and emergencies, such as medical situations, disturbances, or unauthorized access.

    Attend all services and special events when scheduled; arrive one hour before anyone arrives at church and stay until the last person leaves.

    Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles or people on the property.

    Remove wrongdoers or trespassers from the property.

    Secure all exits, doors and windows after the end of operations; lock any doors that do not need to be unlocked.

    Check surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.

    Investigate people for suspicious activity or possessions; report any suspicious activity to supervisor.

    Respond to security system alarms by investigating and assessing the situation.

    Apprehend and detain perpetrators according to legal protocol before arrival of authorities.

    Submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences, document all incidents, large or small.

    Maintain professionalism.

    Make your presence known by wearing proper security attire.

    Be aware of your surroundings at all times.

    Deter, deescalate, and resolve any issues that may arise.

    Meet with all team members and share any intel, concerns, and pray before serving.

    Execute all equipment checks before going on duty.

    Put security system lockdown codes in place at the end of the shift.

    Maintain assigned post.

    Maintain skillsets through continued training.

    Perform all duties assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications

    3-5 Years of previous experience as a Security Guard or in a similar position is preferred

    Valid registration as a security officer

    High school diploma/GED

    Strong understanding of public safety and security procedures

    Excellent written communication skills and report writing ability

    Ability to operate surveillance equipment

    High level of integrity and professionalism

    Attention to detail and strong observational skills

    Ability to work without direct supervision

    Trained in First Aid/BLS and self-defense.

    Dependable, responsible, and self-motivated.

    Must have regular timely attendance during stated or negotiated hours.

    Good organizational and planning skills, and the ability to delegate with staff and volunteers as needed.
