PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are expected to conform to the following:

Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and respectful manner with employees, Tribal members, visitors, and vendors.

Maintain a current insurable driver’s license.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Security Officer will patrol by auto or on foot. Each day the officer will patrol, document, and report to Security Supervisor any potential problems that they encounter. They will be looking for anyone that may be trespassing or committing any type of wrongdoing or display criminal behavior. The officer will be courteous, respectful, and helpful to all staff and patrons at all tribal locations as well as in the communities and counties we serve, Robeson, Cumberland Scotland, and Hoke. The Security Officer will participate in safety drills for employees and clients who frequent the various offices and programs, contact emergency responders as needed while preserving order and protecting tribal property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES
Protecting all tribal visitors, employees, and property and providing clients who visit the facility with information and directions as needed.
Conducts regular checks and foot patrols, verbally help, directs, and interacts with clients and visitors.
Provides reports on any and all occurrences involving safety, vandalism, theft, criminal behavior, and wrongdoing of any kind to the Security Supervisor.
Reports and documents any suspicious activities to the Security Supervisor and follows up with investigation.
Participates in safety drills along with employees and patrons that may be in the office(s).
Reports to work timely and performs assigned duties.
Wear uniform with immaculate pride and ensures equipment is always functional.
Possess updated licensure and training as required by the Private Protective Services Board, if applicable.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in security, investigation, military police, or law enforcement.
Education:
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED.
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:
Good communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for the position.
Candidate must have a good working knowledge of standard fundamentals of security requirements.
The job requires someone with critical thinking skills who can quickly observe a situation and make the appropriate response.
Candidates must be able to obtain an Armed Security Guard License for the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board within 90 days of hire.
A valid NC Driver’s License is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.
Physical demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with clients, vendors, and staff.
Mental demands:
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has implemented an Indian Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position, and who are members of the Lumbee Tribe will be given primary preference for hiring and employment after providing proof of tribal membership. Indian preference is integrated into the interview and scoring process for candidates for job positions.

Background Investigation:
This position is subject to a criminal history background check, and a Motor Vehicle check. Candidates must successfully pass all required background checks in order to qualify for this position.
Drug Screening:
All applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening prior to beginning employment and will be subject to random drug testing.
