_ A Day in the Life_
The role of Security Officers at all Munson Healthcare facilities is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all patients, visitors, employees, and providers. Security Officers provide a security presence throughout the facility to maintain order, monitor activity to identify and report potential risks, prevent accidents and/or injuries and to deter harmful activity such as theft, vandalism, and violence. Security Officers contribute to maintaining a positive environment through consistent high quality customer service.
Manage stressful situations using customer service skills, de-escalation strategies, and physical intervention as a last resort, with specialized training provided.
Assist patients and their families, employees, and visitors. Provide effective customer service.
Monitor visitor traffic and patrol designated areas, including parking lots. Investigate and report incidents clearly and thoroughly. Report unsafe situations or equipment.
Monitor security systems (e.g., access control, security cameras, panic and burglar alarms).
Respond to facility security issues and emergency codes. Prevent and respond to workplace violence. De-escalate potentially violent situations and assist with diverting negative behaviors.
Follow clinical staff lead in violent situations and when applying restraints. Continuous awareness of the potential for criminal, civil, and terrorist activities.
Lock-down procedures and operation of the automated locking system and manual requirements. Provide traffic control and crowd control for mass casualty influx situations.
Supports decontamination procedures including set up of decontamination zones. Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times.
This position requires standing and patrolling for a minimum of 8 hours per shift. Security personnel are regularly required to ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs as part of their routine patrol and move departmental equipment such as barricades and fire extinguishers from one location to another. This position requires the ability to physically manage patients as a last resort, in alignment with Aegis training: applying benevolent holds and physical restraints safely with the healthcare team.
Qualifications
_ What’s Required_
High school diploma or GED OR 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
Valid Michigan driver's license is required.
CPR and AED Certification (infant and adult) is required within 6 months of hire date.
Experience in a security or public safety related field such as law enforcement, military, fire service, campus, casino, or school security, EMS, or healthcare roles that require strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.

**PRN - as needed for coverage for call-ins, PTO coverage, etc. Not a set number of hours per week.
Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.
