    Job Description

    This position of Agricultural/Commercial Loan Officer is located in Heron Lake, MN.   

    The Agricultural/Commercial Loan Officer will perform all functions of operating a loan servicing core system, general ledger accounts, and the company’s internal accounting system. Will also perform functions in loan support to include document origination and loan servicing.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:  

    • Originates, processes and services a variety of loans including agriculture, commercial and real estate loans with Bank Service Standards and regulating policy • Perform customer needs analysis for a variety of loan areas • Provide credit analysis, approval and monitoring for new and existing customers • Establish structure of loans within framework of loan policy and extended agricultural loans up to stated lending limit • Develops new business by contacting prospects and customers, underwriting, structuring and the closing of loans • Develops positive working relationships with commercial, retail and investments areas • Develops and maintain knowledge of compliance and internal control requirements • Ensures the completion of proper documentation • Obtains documentation necessary to perfect a lien, clear a real estate title, file a lien or any other documentation requirements necessary to facilitate a loan closing • Negotiates terms, structure loan financing based on risk considerations and present credits for approval to appropriate levels of authority with the bank • Prepares renewals and extensions as requested • Processes correspondence, credit documentation, special reports and other materials as requested by lenders • Maintains knowledge and understanding of Internal Service Standards for the department and departments that are a part of the workflow • Maximizes bank profitability through appropriate pricing of new loan originations, fee income, and selling of all bank products & services • Daily reviews, approval and disposition of customer overdrafts • Supports the bank’s strong relationship banking culture through on-going customer contact, quality customer service, and superior product knowledge • Assists in and respond to internal and external audits and reviews • Maintain knowledge and application of compliance requirements for banking • Monitors loans in repayment • Collects loans in default • Refers larger loan requests for approval/denial as per the Loan Policy of the Bank • Provides service to customers and prospective customers seeking commercial loans and develop relationships with customers and promote bank services • Develops credit relations with agricultural customers and promote  bank services • Represents the bank through active participation in community events, marketing the bank’s products and services

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

    • Post-Secondary education or equivalent work experience • Previous experience in loan processing, accounting, and servicing strongly desired • Computer proficiency at a mid to expert level in: Microsoft Office programs, expert level in Excel required for related analysis of Customer financials • Understanding of commercial banking laws, bank products, services, policies, and procedures, as well as cost accounting, financial and statistical analysis, principles of commercial and consumer credit • Demonstrated ability to use various interpersonal styles and communication methods, depending on customer and situation, to gain their acceptance of a product or service • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established timeframes • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight time constraints • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality • Strong analytical abilities and strong mathematical aptitude • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, contracts, credit and financial reports and legal documents • Ability to exercise good judgment in establishing and maintaining working relationships • Ability to solve problems through to resolution • Ability to deliver a high level of responsiveness to internal and external customers • High level of accuracy, focus and timeliness • Knowledge of legal documentation is required
