    The Director of Institutional Research will manage, lead, and supervise the specific tasks related to institutional research, including data collection, external and internal reporting, predictive modeling, and appropriate forms of data management and dissemination that move the University forward as an evidence-based institution carrying out the new University Strategic Plan, RENEWAL, with an emphasis on data and technology. The Director will coordinate all data requests and surveys utilized by the institution working closely with the Office of the Provost and Academic Deans to ensure data compliance with external accrediting bodies. The Director of Institutional Research will report to the Senior Associate Provost and will serve as an advisor to the Provost. 

     

    The Director of Institutional Research will work with the Provost as well as the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Mission Integration to facilitate completing the goals within Grand Initiative 4, “A Recognized Leader in Technology and Data Management” in RENEWAL, the University Strategic Plan.  The DIR will also provide substantive and scholarly support to senior administration focused on the review, assessment, and improvement of information generation, use, authentication, and reporting across the University in alignment with all RENEWAL goals. 

     

    The DIR communicates regularly and effectively with all data stewards on data collection requirements and dissemination of reports, and provides leadership in data governance, overseeing decisions regarding data definitions, collection systems, security, and analytics platforms. The DIR will provide leadership for the further development of the University’s data systems and structures and the implementation of more sophisticated tools for data management and analytics.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Master’s degree from an accredited university required in educational research, or a quantitative research-oriented discipline i.e., education, social sciences, public health, business, or related field required. Terminal Degree preferred.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Five or more years of related work experience in assessment, institutional research, institutional effectiveness, research design, and implementation in a higher education setting, preferably with skills in predictive analytics
    • Extensive experience in preparing various accreditation and/or quantitatively driven reports with regional and national agencies
    • Experience producing year-round IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) reporting
    • Advanced knowledge of data visualization to design, enhance, and develop visualized reports in various platforms, including but not limited to employing interactive dashboards.
    • Knowledge of and familiarity with higher education enterprise data systems and the ability to extract data and translate into useful academic reports
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
    • Advanced proficiency in statistical analysis packages such as SPSS, SAS, R, etc.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Develop a vision for evidence-based decision-making for the University based on best practices in institutional research.
    • Provide leadership and strategies for Institutional Research functions across the University.
    • Engage, as appropriate, in the analysis of University data and the production of predictive analytics to inform institutional decision-making.
    • Promote and ensure effective planning, collection, analysis, and reporting of university-wide data on student life, student retention, academic programs, and co-curricular activities used for planning, marketing, and peer ranking, budgeting assessment, accreditation, program review, and project development.
    • Ensure coordination with University offices in survey design and data collection, analysis, and reporting internal survey research for the University.
    • Serve, and lead where appropriate, on various APU councils and boards, specifically the University Data and Information Council, Data Standards Committee, Student Success Assessment Committee, WSCUC Steering Committee, and other relevant councils.
    • Ensure timely and accurate responses to all legally required and necessary external and internal reporting requests.
    • Oversee data integrity, quality assurance, and common data definitions across the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Finance, and Business, and Information and Media Technology, Student Affairs, Advancement, University Relations, and Athletics.
    • Provide oversight and development of employees within the Office of Institutional Research.

    • Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach and lift up to 20 lbs.
    • Must be able to climb stairs multiple times in a workday.

    COMPENSATION

    • Grade 17: $91,587-$119,063/annually
    • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
