    This role is with the Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV) division.  DFV will provide INTERNAL CANDIDATES priority and consideration of their success in existing and prior roles as valid experience.

     

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Facilitates the administration of union health and welfare and retirement benefit plans for non-exempt union employees by ensuring employee understanding of the benefits offered to them, timely and complete enrollment for employees, entry of elections and exchange of data between Dole and TPA, carrier or Trust. 

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

     

    • Assist employees with benefit related questions or issues
    • Liaison with corporate benefits, union TPA, carrier and Trust on behalf of employees and the company to resolve issues
    • Provide benefit enrollment support (New Hire, Recall, Annual Enrollment, Qualified Status Changes)
    • Review and preparation of weekly benefit deduction updates to ensure proper entry, calculate retro deductions or refunds when necessary
    • Review benefit deductions entered but not taken provide corrections to payroll
    • Assist payroll with deductions for terminating and seasonal employees
    • Run and review change file to Health and Welfare administrator, provide supporting documentation for union based benefits prepared by Benefits Assistant
    • Calculate and process funding of pension benefit for employees and temps
    • Validate and process funding union 401k deferrals for employees
    • Reconcile invoices and ensure timely processing
    • Conduct benefit orientations (new hire and recall) and annual open enrollment meetings
    • Assist with preparation and distribution of benefit meeting materials, communications and required notices
    • Work with Benefits Assistant on missed LOA self payments and LOA periods for proper entry into ADP and handling of coverage for non-payment and ending of covered leave period
    • Prepare benefit related reporting - enrollment, deductions, costs, etc.
    • Assist with 5500 filing
    • Prepare ACA reporting data points
    • Provide assistance in collection of information related to Plan appeals
    • Provide back up support to Benefits Assistant for benefit related responsibilities
    • Cooperate with other HR professionals when required
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    Required Skills

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

     

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience with health and welfare benefit responsibility and/or experience in a human resources position.
    • Ability to comprehend established policies, practices, and guidelines in a union setting
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to successfully interact with co-workers, employees and management.
    • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
    • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment, as well as, autonomously within a team setting.
    • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage time and prioritize work
    • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, ADP experience a plus.
    • Bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish required

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15 lbs.

    WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

    Ability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts preferred/required. 

    No travel.

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience with health and welfare benefit responsibility and/or experience in a human resources position.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; BA or AA degree preferred
