A Fairfax-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is seeking a full-time accountant to manage its overall accounting operations. This is a direct-hire, standalone, hybrid position that offers competitive benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform traditional accounting functions including preparation of monthly financial statements, quarterly financial reports, direct oversight of the accounting system, and day-to-day cash management, fixed assets, and payroll processes.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget and accompanying documentation for presentation to the Board of Directors.
- Work closely with the independent auditor audits, as well as complete ad-hoc projects and reporting at the direction of the Treasurer and/or the Executive Director.
- Prepare financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, statements of cash flows, tax reporting, and other required internal or external reporting by providing timely, accurate, concise reports and analysis.
- Set up and apply processes and procedures that properly capture, track, and report revenue, deferred revenue, fixed assets, prepayments, cash, accruals, and various other transactions in accordance with the organization's policies.
- Monitor and develop monthly reports on revenues, expenditures, and balance sheet fluctuations for internal and/or external use and interpret and provide meaningful analysis for managers and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience, required.
- 5+ years accounting experience.
- Full understanding of the accounting and financial functions, ability to resolve a wide range of issues using analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail is essential for this position.
- Ability to work independently on a number of different projects simultaneously, reprioritizing as needed.
- Knowledge of and experience with AccuFund Accounting System highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Word and Excel.
