Summary: Implements and coordinates Safety programs to reduce and eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. Job Description: · Identifies by daily audits and appraises conditions that could produce accidents and financial losses. · Enforces accident prevention and loss control systems and programs for incorporation in operational policies of the company. · Assist in conducting (leading) safety inspections, meetings, and training programs. · Assist in the implementation of safety activities with department managers to ensure a safe plant. · Conduct new-hire safety orientation program. · Assist with Quality System Compile statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports for information of personnel concerned · Help to instill management accountability for safety and health issues within their department/facilities · 70% of the time will be spent auditing safety programs inside the plant in the production areas. · Coordinate safety committee meetings · Perform other duties as assigned Weekly fire inspections o Check to assure valves are locked open, safety inspections o Once a month-unlock and do a ¼ turn on valves and also check on underground valves (these may need to be cleaned as debris collects in these periodically-may need to purchase a vacuum to assist)· Daily general inspection to look for hazards o A report generated each month to cover any items discovered in general inspections. This should be a great tool for documentation of inspections-not looking for a “book” but just something that documents the various areas and things that need correcting in those areas. o Daily safety walks, and employee engagement · Weekly check to assure MH, and LOTTO inspections are being performed and documented o We need to make sure both inspection books (production and maintenance) are being filled out correctly Assist with the following: · Assuring safe working conditions during shut-downs · Writing, inspecting updating JHAs/JSAs · Coordinating the maintenance and repair of fire protection systems · Keeping Gatorade/Sqwincher stocked · Assuring all signage is in place and not in need of repair/replacement · Site security · Record-keeping/filling requirements · Training new-hires, contractors etc. · Annual training for crews and maintenance personnel · Environmental inspections · Maintaining/cleaning storm water drains & ponds · Weekly effluent sampling · Maintaining and properly packaging of recycle wastes (bulbs, batteries etc.) · Stocking spill kits Job Requirements · Commitment to safety must be able to identify safety improvement opportunities · Excellent verbal and written communication skills: general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form · Demonstrate organizational skills · Demonstrate ability to excel with minimum supervision Preferred Experience / Skills / Certification: · Knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations. · Effective written and verbal communication skills. · Ability to train associates at all levels of the organization. · Work well with others in a team atmosphere. · Should be able to understand and respond to a diverse population. · Strong multi-tasking skills.· Computer literacy including specialized databases and programs used to manage safety and security at the site. · Bilingual in English/Spanish pref
