The Opportunity
This is a hybrid position offering the flexibility to work both remotely and on-site while supporting critical affordable housing initiatives. What You'll Do
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations using Yardi to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Analyze P&L statements and explain variances to leadership with clear, actionable insights
- Support audit preparation activities by making financials audit-ready, organizing documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to auditor requests
- Consolidate large data sets quickly and present information in meaningful, professional formats for stakeholders
- Perform month-end close procedures specific to affordable housing compliance requirements
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts with attention to restricted funds and grant accounting
- Manage fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules
- Prepare detailed payable schedules and ensure accuracy across multiple properties or programs
- Use advanced Excel functions (SUMIFs, XLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas) to manipulate and analyze large datasets
- Prepare financial reports that meet both GAAP standards and affordable housing regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with finance team members and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations
What You Bring
Required:
- Advanced Excel skills including SUMIFs, XLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and ability to work with large datasets efficiently
- Yardi experience (this is essential!)
- Affordable housing accounting experience with knowledge of compliance requirements, tax credit programs (LIHTC), and/or HUD regulations
- Strong P&L analysis skills with ability to identify and explain budget variances clearly
- Audit preparation experience—you know how to make financials audit-ready and support the audit process
- Fixed asset management experience including tracking and depreciation schedules
- Proven ability to quickly consolidate complex data from multiple sources into clear, presentable reports
- Experience preparing detailed payable schedules and account reconciliations
- Strong understanding of fund accounting and restricted revenue
- Account reconciliation and consolidations expertise
- Detail-oriented mindset with excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Have you ever audited workbooks for specific properties. He just wants someone who can go property by property, workbook by workbook, and audit to make sure it's accurate.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with nonprofit accounting standards
- Familiarity with multiple affordable housing funding sources
- CPA or actively pursuing certification
- Experience with data visualization or reporting tools
