Senior Accountant – Behavioral Health (Denver, CO)
We are a mission-driven, PE-backed behavioral health company seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this role will take ownership of key areas of the close process and financial reporting, while supporting the continued growth of our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure accurate and timely results in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations across core areas such as revenue recognition, fixed assets, leases, and intercompany accounts.
- Consolidate and analyze financial results across multiple entities, providing clear explanations for variances.
- Assist in preparing internal management reports, financial statements, and materials for leadership and investors.
- Maintain detailed workpapers to support account balances, disclosures, and audit requirements.
- Partner with FP&A, operations, and clinical leadership to ensure alignment between financial results and operational performance.
- Support special projects, including process improvements, new system implementations, and M&A activity when needed.
- Help manage external audits by preparing schedules, answering inquiries, and ensuring accuracy of supporting materials.
- Contribute to strengthening internal controls, documenting policies, and identifying opportunities for automation or workflow improvements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in healthcare, behavioral health, or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience working with Medicaid payors and reimbursement models is a plus!
- Skilled in month-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel.
- Excellent communication skills; able to collaborate across departments and explain financials clearly.
- Experience in smaller or mid-size, PE-backed companies is a plus.
- M&A and data analytics exposure welcome but not required.
