JOB PURPOSE
To perform end to end ledger work for US Programs with ownership of assigned program information.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Post manual journals in GL
- Processing of journals to reflect insurance contracts, including quota and non-quota reinsurance cost and contingent commissions
- Manual upload of external files in a standard SAP journal template – primary responsibility for program premium, claims, IBNR and related supplier activity
- Execute accruals / deferrals / reversal, including unearned premiums, IBNRs and deferred income
- Prepare Proof files for all assigned programs
- Reconcile Program controls for all assigned programs
- Reconciling and tracking MGA receivable/payable balances
- Post pre close adjustment entry
- Run reporting as required (e.g. TBs / extracts for Tax team)
- Assist US Accounting Manager where needed in reviewing other team members’ work
- Assist US Accounting Manager in analyzing drivers in program performance
- Other ad hoc projects as required
- To maintain compliance with any applicable US or International statutory or regulatory obligation as required by the role. This includes but is not limited to obligations arising from:
- The prudent management of the business.
- Placing due regard on the interests of customers.
- Observing rules on Sanctions and financial crime.
- Regulatory requirements and local licensing restrictions.
- Promoting and follow the Group’s whistleblowing procedures.
- Where applicable, following the Company’s Consumer Duty principles to deliver good outcomes for retail customers
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
- Good knowledge and experience across ERP (sub-ledgers and ledgers) aspects of accounting systems and processes
- Knowledge of SAP would be an asset, though not required
- Fluent in MS Office, specifically Excel
- Good understanding of data analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
- Pro-active mind-set to improve local and functional processes
- Ability to think critically and analytically, solve problems, and plan and organize activities
- Ability to deal with complex accounting issues with excellent analytical skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and multi-task effectively under strict deadlines
- Ability to work in the Orlando or NY office 3 days a week
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with additional course work required to sit for the CPA exam completed or in process
Experience
- 4 years’ accounting experience in a commercial insurance/business setting preferred
