StaffBuffalo is excited to partner with a well-established public-sector organization to hire a Senior Accountant for a full-time, in-person role in Buffalo, NY. This is an impactful opportunity for someone who wants to step into a lead accounting position, contribute to financial accuracy across multiple programs, and support long-term organizational stability. This position pays an annual salary of $65,000-$70,000. 

    In this role, the Senior Accountant will manage key financial functions including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll allocations, and loan/grant-related accounting. You’ll also support and guide team members who assist with daily accounting tasks, helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls across the department.

    This is an on-site, full-time position based in Buffalo, NY.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the monthly close process and prepare accurate, timely financial statements
    • Complete or review bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and journal entries
    • Prepare variance reports and financial analysis to support leadership decision-making
    • Manage fixed asset tracking and related schedules
    • Process and review grant- and payroll-related accounting entries
    • Review contracts, requisitions, loan packages, and program-related financial requests for accuracy and eligibility
    • Reconcile budget balances across internal accounting systems and external reporting systems
    • Prepare financial documentation for audits, grants, and external reporting
    • Collaborate with internal teams to complete project cost reconciliations and streamline accounting processes

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; MBA preferred
    • 1+ year of non-profit or governmental accounting experience required
    • Knowledge of GAAP and governmental/fund accounting
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort with accounting software
    • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational ability
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting

    Additional Requirement

    • Must reside in the City of Buffalo or be willing to relocate within 6 months of hire

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $65,000 – $70,000 annual salary
    • Unlimited sick time.
