We are a high-growth startup looking for a Corporate Senior Accountant who thrives in the "building phase" of a business. In this role, you won't just inherit processes; you will design them. This position offers a blend of technical accounting, financial storytelling, and operational scaling. It is an ideal move for a CPA-track professional who loves the Richmond startup ecosystem and wants to own the ledger from top to bottom.
Core Responsibilities
1\. Financial Operations & Reporting
Month-End Leadership: Lead the month-end and quarter-end close process, ensuring the transition from raw data to financial statements is executed with speed and accuracy.
Technical Accounting: Manage complex accounting areas including revenue recognition (ASC 606), equity/stock-based compensation, and multi-state tax nexus.
Consolidations: Oversee the financial interplay between various entities and cost centers as the company scales.
2\. Scalability & Systems
Tech Stack Optimization: Play a key role in optimizing the ERP (NetSuite or Sage Intacct) and integrating it with payroll and spend management platforms.
Internal Controls: Design and implement right-sized controls that protect the company’s assets without compromising the pace of innovation.
Automation: Identify manual accounting tasks and implement automated workflows to increase departmental efficiency.
3\. Strategic Partnership
Cash Flow & Burn Rate: Track and report on burn rate and cash flow, providing the leadership team with visibility into the company’s runway.
Budgetary Support: Work directly with department heads in Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to provide budget clarity and ROI analysis.
Audit & Tax Readiness: Lead the preparation for annual audits and tax filings, ensuring all documentation is structured and "due-diligence ready."
The Ideal Profile
Experience: 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience. A background that includes a mix of public accounting and corporate startup environments is preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Deep proficiency in GAAP and the ability to apply accounting theory to practical business problems.
Startup Mindset: High comfort level with ambiguity and a proactive approach to solving process-related challenges.
Software Savvy: Advanced Excel skills and experience with modern, cloud-based ERP and fintech stacks.
Richmond Presence: Based in or relocating to the Richmond area to support a hybrid work model focused on local collaboration.
