A global mission driven company dedicated to improving the lives of children and families worldwide, is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager (Head of Accounting) to lead its financial operations.
*$160-$180K + 15% full annual bonus*
*3 days/week in office*
This is a highly impactful senior and hands-on accounting leadership role for a professional who combines a process-improvement mindset and a deep commitment to ethical stewardship. The role oversees day-to-day accounting, grant financial administration, reporting, audits, and compliance, while supporting strategic fiscal decision-making for global programs spanning more than 60 countries.
The Senior Accounting Manager operates within a corporate finance environment and collaborates closely with external auditors, participates in board-level financial discussions, and manages two senior accountants.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including AP/AR, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance analyses, projections, and grant spending summaries
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting analyses
- Lead annual audit activities and support budget planning and forecasting cycles
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual work and increase efficiency
- Map, document, and optimize end-to-end finance workflows, identifying gaps and automation opportunities
Grant Financial Oversight
- Ensure financial compliance for all grants, including budget reviews, payment schedules, reporting requirements, and year-end reconciliation
- Partner with fundraising, program, and strategy teams to support global initiatives
- Conduct financial due diligence and risk assessments for new partnerships
Compliance, Governance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and nonprofit accounting standards
- Coordinate annual audits and Form 990 filings in partnership with corporate finance and external auditors
Leadership & Collaboration
- Manage, mentor, and develop two senior accountants
- Build strong relationships across corporate teams, foundation leadership, distributors, employees, and external partners
- Uphold the firm’s mission through ethical stewardship, accountability, and operational rigor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- CPA or advanced degree preferred
- 8+ years of hands-on accounting management experience
- Demonstrated people management or supervisory experience
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and tax-exempt regulations a plus
- Experience leading audits and working with external auditors
- Proven ability to design and implement process improvements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in dynamic, deadline-driven environments
- Proficiency with MS Office and general ledger systems
