Senior Architectural Medical Planner
Location: Seattle, WA 98101 (Hybrid)
In-office cadence: 2–3 days/week, aligned to anchor days (Tue/Wed/Thu)
Base Salary: $120,000–$140,000 (DOE)
Education: Master’s (required)
Experience: 15+ years (8+ years focused medical planning)
The role
Company is hiring a Senior Architectural Medical Planner to lead programming, medical planning, and clinical integration for complex healthcare environments. This is a senior subject-matter expert position that sits at the intersection of clinical operations and architectural design—translating care delivery models, workflows, and regulatory requirements into efficient, compliant, patient-centered spaces.
This role is Seattle-based and works across multiple projects and scales, partnering with architects, designers, planners, and project managers. Strong regional healthcare experience in Washington and Oregon is important; California experience is a plus.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead medical planning for hospitals, ambulatory care centers, specialty clinics, diagnostic facilities, and complex renovations (behavioral health/recovery experience strongly preferred)
- Develop functional and space programs, adjacency diagrams, stacking plans, and test fits
- Translate clinical workflows, staffing models, and patient flow into clear spatial solutions
- Run clinical user interviews, planning workshops, and visioning sessions to shape design direction
- Partner closely with clinicians and stakeholders to understand care delivery models, equipment needs, and operational constraints
- Align architectural design with clinical operations, patient experience, and long-term functionality
- Evaluate efficiency, safety, infection control, and staff workflows throughout planning and design
- Serve as the medical planning lead within integrated, multi-discipline project teams
- Collaborate across design and documentation phases with PMs, designers, and technical teams
- Review drawings/specs for alignment with program, operations, and regulatory requirements
- Mentor junior and mid-level staff and help grow internal medical planning capability
What you bring
- Master’s-level professional degree in Architecture, Medical Planning, Interior Architecture, or related field
- 15+ years healthcare design experience, including 8+ years focused medical planning
- Advanced Revit proficiency (required)
- Track record planning complex healthcare settings, including renovations, behavioral health facilities, imaging suites, and labs
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience coordinating with AHJs and agencies (including DOH and Oregon Health Authority)
- Preferred: Licensed Architect and/or NCIDQ; AIA/NCIDQ and/or PMP
- Experience with large healthcare systems or academic medical centers
- Familiarity with Lean healthcare principles and/or evidence-based design
