Senior BESS Design Manager (EPC) — Drive Utility-Scale Battery Projects End to End

    San Francisco, CA | Full-Time | $160,000 – $210,000

    The Opportunity

Someone has to turn grid-scale battery ambitions into permitted, funded, buildable projects — on schedules most teams would call impossible. Our client, a rapidly scaling clean energy innovator, is looking for a Senior BESS Design Manager to lead design and engineering for battery energy storage infrastructure from first feasibility study to production. If you can command the details, question the requirements, and rally cross-functional teams to execute fast without sacrificing quality, this role was written for you.

    Why You'll Love It

    • Full project ownership: Feasibility, funding, 30/60/90/IFC design, change management, and construction support
    • Sector momentum: Utility-scale BESS is the fastest-growing corner of the energy transition
    • Real influence: The single point of contact aligning stakeholders inside and outside the company
    • Bay Area compensation: $160K–$210K

    What You'll Do

    • Manage greenfield and brownfield infrastructure and equipment install projects for grid-scale battery energy storage — conceptualization through construction
    • Act as the communication hub for internal stakeholders and external parties across deployment
    • Manage permitting and construction documents through transmittal
    • Own design funding and schedules for assigned projects
    • Coordinate with procurement and construction partners to keep the overall schedule on track
    • Surface resource gaps and constraints early; influence beyond your reporting line
    • Bring lean construction and fully integrated BIM practices to every project
    • Lead feasibility studies, value engineering, and options analysis

    What You'll Bring

    • Deep knowledge of grid-scale storage and balance-of-plant equipment — inverters, transformers, switchgear, HVAC, fire suppression
    • Strong grounding in electrical system design, interconnection requirements, and utility-scale execution
    • Understanding of battery systems, protection, power conversion, MV/HV systems, and controls
    • Familiarity with UL 9540/1973/1741, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, and IEC standards
    • BS in Engineering (Electrical preferred) or equivalent demonstrated ability
    • PE or RA license preferred
    • 5+ years managing multi-disciplinary scopes in A/E or design engineering; EPC/PM experience
    • Commercial or industrial electrical installation and distribution experience
    • Thrives under pressure and in ambiguity
