Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Boiler Technician with advanced experience in industrial boiler systems, with a strong emphasis on electrical and wiring expertise, particularly in parallel positioning control systems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of combustion control logic, burner management systems, and modern boiler automation technologies, and be proficient in reading and installing complex electrical systems that support boiler operations.
Key Responsibilities
Boiler Operation & Maintenance
• Perform routine and emergency maintenance on high-pressure and low-pressure steam and hot water boilers.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain burners, pumps, pressure vessels, and safety devices.
• Ensure boilers operate safely and efficiently under varying loads.
Electrical Systems & Wiring
• Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical control panels, wiring harnesses, circuit boards, sensors, relays, and actuators used in boiler and burner systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC ladder logic, and control circuits.
• Perform panel terminations, conduit work, and retrofits in compliance with local and federal codes.
• Test and verify proper grounding, voltage, and signal continuity across all components in the control loop.
Parallel Positioning Control Systems
• Install, program, and calibrate parallel positioning systems, including all associated electrical and electronic components.
• Replace and configure servos, linkage-less actuators, and sensors to ensure accurate fuel-to-air ratio control.
• Troubleshoot combustion management systems using multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic software tools.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
• Identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic failures affecting boiler operations.
• Use diagnostic equipment to trace faults, perform loop checks, and verify system signals and feedback.
Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure electrical and mechanical installations meet local, state, and national safety and operational standards.
• Maintain accurate records of electrical wiring, service logs, testing results, and preventive maintenance activities.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Mentor junior technicians, especially in electrical and control system diagnostics.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and vendors on system designs, installations, and upgrades.
• Ensure duties and company projects are accomplished in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Safety& Training
• Strictly follow electrical lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety protocols.
• Participate in electrical safety training and continuous education on control
technologies.
• Conduct on-site training on boiler system safety, maintenance procedures, and new technologies.
Qualifications
Required:
• 7+ years of experience as a boiler technician, including extensive hands-on experience with electrical systems and wiring.
• Minimum 3 years working with parallel positioning control systems (e.g., Fireye, Siemens, Autoflame, Honeywell).
• Strong knowledge of combustion theory, PLCs, and low-voltage control systems.
• Skilled in using electrical tools (multimeters, amp clamps, insulation testers, etc.).
• Ability to read and troubleshoot control schematics, electrical drawings, and P&IDs.
• Strong understanding of NFPA, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
Preferred:
• Journeyman Electrician license
• Technical degree or certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Controls, or HVAC.
• OEM training certifications (e.g., Fireye, Siemens, Honeywell).
• OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and industrial environments.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs, use ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
• Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call assignments as needed.
• Availability to travel within the Midwest US with opportunities for international travel.
