Senior Electrical Engineer
Bloomington, MN | Contract-to-Hire | $60.00-$70.00/hr | Onsite
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, analysis, testing, and documentation of electronic hardware for complex engineered systems. This role defines circuit architecture, performs detailed schematic development, oversees board layout, and ensures compliance with performance, reliability, and safety expectations. The position requires a high level of technical leadership, collaboration across engineering teams, and the ability to mentor other engineers while driving robust design practices.
Key Responsibilities
Circuit Design & Analysis
- Design analog, digital, and power electronic circuits that satisfy project requirements.
- Select components based on performance, sourcing strategy, lifecycle considerations, and cost.
- Direct and review printed wiring board and circuit card assembly layouts using tools such as Altium.
- Lead safety and reliability assessments including MTBF calculations, DFMEA participation, and safety integrity evaluations.
Testing, Validation & Documentation
- Develop test plans and procedures for prototypes, electronic assemblies, and EMC testing.
- Review peer designs and provide technical feedback to improve quality and durability of electrical solutions.
- Approve and maintain design documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with requirements.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide senior-level guidance to engineering teams, supporting decision-making and technical direction.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing training and coaching on design methods and engineering best practices.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary groups to translate system requirements into actionable hardware designs.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- 12 or more years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware development.
- Strong proficiency with ECAD software, preferably Altium.
- Experience conducting design reviews, safety evaluations, and verification planning.
Additional Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple high-priority projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. Person.
- Ability to obtain or maintain a security clearance.
- Comfortable working within digital collaboration platforms such as SharePoint.
