Senior Irrigation Technician (Commercial)
Location: Longmont, CO Compensation: $70,000 – $85,000 salary
Position Overview
The Senior Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, diagnostics, maintenance, and overall performance of commercial irrigation systems, with a strong focus on advanced 2-wire systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring irrigation systems are installed correctly, operate efficiently, and meet project specifications and water management standards.
This position requires a high level of technical expertise in irrigation systems, electrical troubleshooting, and water distribution, along with the ability to work independently in the field. The Senior Irrigation Technician will routinely diagnose system issues, perform repairs, and optimize system performance to ensure proper water delivery and long-term reliability.
In addition to hands-on technical work, this role includes occasional leadership responsibilities, such as running small jobs, directing crew members, and coordinating with project managers to keep work on schedule. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and capable of identifying and solving problems before they impact production.
This is a field-driven role for someone who takes ownership of their work, understands commercial irrigation systems at a high level, and can consistently execute with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Irrigation Systems (Primary Focus)
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial 2-wire irrigation systems
Diagnose and repair:
Wire path issues (shorts, opens, grounding)
Decoder failures
Controller and communication issues
Perform system startups, winterizations, and audits
Read and interpret irrigation plans, as-builts, and specifications
Ensure systems are installed and operating to spec and manufacturer standards
Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements
Field Operations & Execution
Lead small irrigation installs or service jobs as needed
Coordinate with Site Supervisors and PMs to keep work moving
Ensure materials, parts, and equipment are ready ahead of work
Maintain clean, organized, and efficient job sites
Communicate clearly on job status, issues, and needs
Maintenance & Service
Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
Respond to service calls and resolve issues efficiently
Minimize callbacks through quality work and proper diagnostics
Maintain accurate service notes and documentation
Team Support
Provide guidance to crew members on irrigation installs and repairs
Assist with training on best practices and troubleshooting
Qualifications
Required
Strong experience with commercial irrigation systems
Proven experience with 2-wire systems (diagnostics + install)
Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in irrigation systems
Experience with major controller brands (Hunter, Rain Bird, etc.)
Ability to read plans and understand specifications
Valid driver’s license
Preferred
Irrigation certification (CIT, CLIA, or equivalent)
Experience running small crews or jobs
Strong organizational and communication skills
Tech-savvy (comfortable with apps, tablets, digital plans, etc.)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
