This position is responsible for developing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for a wide range of commercial and industrial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects — with a primary focus on spec build work in collaboration with general contractors. You’ll leverage your deep understanding of MEP projects and construction practices to evaluate drawings, quantify materials and labor, solicit vendor pricing, and support our project teams in securing and executing work efficiently. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is passionate about delivering precision and value for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
· Review and interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing project plans, specifications, and RFPs to prepare accurate electrical estimates.
· Perform quantity take-offs and apply pricing to all necessary labor, material, and equipment for commercial and industrial electrical systems.
· Evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for accuracy and completeness. · Work closely with Project Managers, and Procurement Coordinator to ensure materials are coordinated with project schedules.
· Develop and maintain estimating tools, databases, and cost histories.
· Collaborate with internal departments (mechanical, plumbing, and project management) to ensure cohesive project estimates.
· Lead bid preparation, including assembling proposal packages and conducting post-bid reviews.
· Facilitate design-build and value engineering efforts with Contract Division Leaders when applicable.
· Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to evaluate conditions and understand project scope.
· Assist in building relationships with general contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
· Stay current with industry trends, code changes, and market pricing.
Job Qualifications
· 5+ years of direct commercial construction estimating experience within at least one trade. (Preferably within an MEP firm.)
· Strong knowledge of electrical systems, construction means/methods and estimating techniques.
· Proficiency with estimating software (such as Bluebeam, Building Connected, Accubid, Trimble, McCormick)
· Experience with spec build projects and working with general contractors a plus.
· Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and construction documents.
· Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Benefits:
· Competitive salary and lucrative performance-based bonuses
· Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan with company match.)
· Paid time off (PTO) and holidays.
· Professional development opportunities.
· Career advancement within a growing company.
