    JOB SUMMARY

    Responsible for creating strategic internal communications plans and programs. Provides expertise in employee communications by developing and executing enterprise-wide employee communications and engagement activities in support of the company's business strategy culture and programs.

    Interacts regularly with Senior Executives. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor and decision-maker in a fast-paced, complex, and crucial environment. Serves as lead on teams on projects, leveraging communications expertise, or is part of cross-functional teams established to drive key communications initiatives.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Creates an internal communications strategy to help ensure we are building effective communication channels using the right vehicles. Creates strategic communication plans, programs, and messaging for Walgreens business leaders and their business units to influence the early adoption of strategy throughout the business, engage employees and enhance Walgreens reputation and positive image with customers and in communities we serve.

    • Provides consultative services to the executive office, HR, compliance and other critical departments that impact all employees. Serves as an internal thought leader in identifying industry trends and innovation in the area of employee communications; ensures best practices are tailored and applied to our business.

    • Works with Senior Executives to develop leadership communications including key organization announcements, consistent leader updates, change communications, speeches, presentations, and multimedia events for Walgreens business leaders. Manages senior executive/C-suite messaging, speech writing, bylines and other communications.

    • Develops new, interesting, creative, and compelling ways to engage and educate regarding the actions the company has taken against areas of opportunity. Keeps communications fresh, creative, and engaging; regularly develop and explore new ideas, strategies, and tactics.

    • Leads the development of communications strategies and messages for business unit initiatives. Partners closely with the integrated communications team to ensure successful communications execution.

    • Develops strategic employee communications and engagement plans including execution of the communications plan tactics (intranet content, digital signage, video, print, events, etc.).

    • Builds a high-performing strategic communications team. Assigns work as appropriate to team members to ensure on-time delivery and high-quality execution. Assesses and aligns department competencies and staff development with business goals. Responsible for department morale and cross-department collaboration and problem-solving.

    • Acts as a representative for Corporate and Strategic Communications to effectively communicate company positions, corporate goals and objectives to the business unit, as well as key business unit initiatives and objectives back to Corporate and Strategic Communications

    • Monitors and measures internal communications tools to determine effectiveness.

    • Helps lead the development and execution of a strategy for responding to crisis situations internally. Maintain up to date awareness of issues and recommend when to proactively address the issues internally.

    • Helps lead the development of a strategy for building a stronger global internal communications network and presence.

    • Quickly masters relevant industry and business unit information.

    • Works with field communications partners to ensure adequate awareness and understanding of communications plans, as well as their responsibility in cascading and bringing those plans to life.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4 years of experience developing, executing and integrating, execute and integrating communications plans OR High School/GED and at least 7 years of experience developing, executing and integrating, execute and integrating communications plans.

    • At least 2 years’ experience leading teams and providing counsel, influencing and challenging thinking of business leaders

    • Experience expressing ideas in a clear and compelling way, to identify key issues in complex situations and be flexible enough to change plans when necessary. Ability to lead and complete multiple projects on deadline

    • Experience leading collaborative decision-making and driving breakthrough thinking within cross-functional team environments.

    • Experience interacting with and influencing senior leaders, operational teams and employees

    • Experience managing relationships and collaborating cross-functionally.

    • Experience effectively prioritizing projects in a dynamic environment

    • Experience altering communications, both written and verbal, to a wide range of audiences

    • Experience working both independently and in a team environment

    • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.

    • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Journalism, Communications, English, Liberal Arts

    • Experience in the indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other members of a team.
