    Senior Mechanical Project Engineer
    Minneapolis, MN | Full-Time | $120,000-$150,000 Base Salary | Onsite

    Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead and contribute to the design of complex building systems across a diverse portfolio of projects. In this role, you’ll work closely with architects, engineers, and clients to craft high-performance HVAC solutions tailored to the needs of each environment—ranging from hospitals and research labs to government facilities, corporate offices, and university campuses.

    This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with a strong consulting background, particularly in Central Utility Plant (CUP) design and steam distribution systems, who thrives on solving unique mechanical challenges and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead mechanical design efforts for HVAC systems, including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layout, and the creation of detailed design documentation.
    • Develop and maintain project specifications, ensuring compliance with codes, energy standards, and client performance requirements.
    • Oversee system integration for large-scale thermal plants, including steam and hot water boiler systems and chiller plants exceeding 1,000 tons.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and project partners, managing coordination across internal disciplines and external stakeholders.
    • Contribute to design reviews, value engineering discussions, and project workshops throughout the design lifecycle.
    • Investigate and resolve complex design issues related to conflicting requirements, system constraints, and site-specific conditions.
    • Conduct research on mechanical system options and technologies, presenting findings and recommendations to support project decision-making.
    • Ensure all mechanical designs meet jurisdictional codes, safety standards, and best practices for energy efficiency and system reliability.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field
    • Minimum of 8 years of mechanical design experience in a consulting engineering or A/E firm environment
    • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license recognized by a U.S. state licensing board is preferred
    • Demonstrated expertise in Central Utility Plant design, including steam generation and distribution, hot water systems, and large-scale cooling infrastructure
    • Working knowledge of HVAC control systems and integration with building automation platforms
    • Proficiency in design software such as Revit, BIM 360, Trane Trace 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate technical and operational challenges
