Our client is an engineering and consulting firm supporting residential building performance, energy efficiency, and mechanical design projects. They provide technical solutions focused on residential HVAC design, energy code compliance, and high-performance construction.
The Senior Residential Mechanical Designer - HVAC is responsible for residential HVAC system design, including load calculations, duct design, equipment sizing, ventilation, and code compliance. This position requires hands-on experience with AutoCAD, WrightSoft or similar residential HVAC design software, and ACCA Manual J, Manual D, and Manual S methodologies. The role also performs technical design reviews, supports project execution, and provides technical guidance to other team members.
Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation, review, and validation of residential HVAC load calculations, duct sizing and design, ventilation strategies, and equipment sizing in accordance with ACCA standards and applicable energy codes
Perform residential HVAC design using AutoCAD, WrightSoft or similar residential HVAC design software
Apply ACCA Manual J, Manual D, and Manual S methodologies to residential mechanical system design
Perform QA/QC reviews of residential mechanical designs, HVAC calculations, and energy modeling deliverables
Review designs for IECC, ENERGY STAR®, state residential energy code, and applicable mechanical requirements
Identify design, code compliance, and project workflow issues and develop technical resolutions
Manage project deliverables, milestones, priorities, and design schedules
Coordinate mechanical design requirements with internal departments, clients, builders, architects, and project stakeholders
Interpret project requirements, jurisdictional requirements, and residential HVAC design criteria
Maintain project documentation, calculations, and reporting using Excel, SharePoint, and internal systems
Support development of residential HVAC design standards, templates, technical procedures, and process improvements
Train and mentor junior and mid-level team members on HVAC design procedures, software applications, and code compliance
Support onboarding and technical training for new staff
Maintain knowledge of IECC requirements, state residential energy codes, ACCA standards, and residential HVAC design practices
Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required
3+ years of relevant experience in Residential Mechanical (HVAC) Design
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD
Advanced proficiency in HVAC load calculation
Advanced proficiency using WrightSoft or similar residential HVAC design software
Advanced understanding of ACCA Manual J, Manual D, and Manual S methodologies
Strong working knowledge of IECC, ENERGY STAR®, and state residential energy code requirements
Compensation:
Base salary in the 68k - 75k/year range
Hybrid work schedule for local candidates, fully remote potential for out of state candidates.
