The Role We Want You For
The Plumbing Engineering Department Manager will work directly with other discipline leaders and a variety of team members, including principals and project leaders, to ensure the plumbing engineering team produces the highest quality work deliverables. This position will require high levels of energy and drive, possess the skill to execute complex projects and a desire to deliver outstanding work product to clients. This person will lead a team of engineers and designers in the development of plumbing design documents and deliverables for all project phases (conceptual and detailed design, and construction documentation). The Plumbing Engineering Department Leader may execute work on multiple projects simultaneously as directed by project leaders.
The Specifics of the Role
- Work closely and coordinate with Industrial Process Engineering Management, Industrial Structural Engineering Management, and other Building Services Discipline Leads.
- Develop, Manage, and Support Building Systems Plumbing Engineers and Designers.
- Review of all plumbing Systems building design engineering work.
- Provide Plumbing Engineering leadership, review all plumbing engineering work and assure our team produces the highest quality work deliverables.
- Develop strong relationships within the Industrial Business Unit, Clayco Preconstruction, and Clayco Construction groups.
- Design building plumbing systems including drain, waste, vent, domestic cold, domestic hot, nonpotable water, tepid water, eye wash/emergency showers, grease/oil/sediment seperators, wastewater, natural gas, and other plumbing systems for custom, industrial applications.
- Completion of engineering calculations and oversight of plumbing design using Revit.
- Interface with vendors to accomplish equipment sizing, system design and selection of plumbing equipment.
- Develop specifications, interface with on-site project teams and inspect installations.
Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET institution required.
- 10+ years of experience in Plumbing Engineering with proven experience leading and developing a team of engineers.
- Holding a P.E. Licensure in good standing is required. The ability to obtain and hold multi-state P.E. licensure is required. Current multi-state P.E. Licensure in good standing is a plus.
- Experience in the plumbing design elements of Life Science, Laboratories, Healthcare, and Pharmaceuticals. Experience in cGMP for manufacturing and distribution facilities for Food, Beverage, and Consumer Products is a plus. Experience in hyperscale data centers is a plus.
- Knowledge of proposals, construction contracts, AIA forms, and purchase orders.
- Strong leadership, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.

The Role We Want You For
Clayco is currently seeking a licensed Senior Structural Engineer to join our design team. In this role you will be working with in-house Development, Architecture, and Construction teams to provide Structural Design and Quality Assurance on industrial (distribution, manufacturing, food and beverage, and cold storage) projects for our nationwide clients.
The Specifics of the Role
- Structural Engineer is involved from the beginning to foresee preliminary design problems.
- Focus is on problem solving instead of finger pointing. The Architect, Engineer, and Contractor are on the same team.
- Project designs based on construction schedule versus fully finished package.
- Preliminary pricing advantages due to historical construction experience.
- Value engineering is ongoing as the design is refined.
- Input from jobsite can identify construction issues.
- Projects can be designed to the builder’s strength.
- Easier for engineer to issue changes or make revisions.
- Opportunity for site and Quality visits to assist in solving field issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis.
- Master’s Degree with Structural emphasis preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience designing commercial projects, ideally industrial (warehouse, distribution, e-commerce, manufacturing, cold storage, food, and beverage).
- PE and/or SE license preferred.
- 3-D CAD experience is a plus.
- Team oriented attitude.
