Senior Structural Engineer
QUALIFICATIONS:
Design structural and building system components of complex structures and facilities across a number of industries including food process, industrial and agricultural bulk storage, biofuels, and agricultural processing industries. Develop and prepare construction documents and specifications for assigned projects. Evaluate existing facilities for conformance to current building codes and requirements of their respective industries. Duties will include developing layouts and details of all aspects of the building system. Coordinating with other disciplines and staff to ensure functional facility designs. Direct CAD staff in preparation of documents. Work with Ownership to grow and expand the business and act as department head.
Knowledge of ACI, AISC, PCI, ASCE, NFPA & IBC codes and standards are essential to perform this position. Knowledge of cold storage and low temperature buildings and bulk storage/material handling systems design is a strong plus. A minimum of 10 years experience and Registration as a professional engineer is required and the ability to become registered as a professional engineer in various jurisdictions as projects require. Preference will be given to those with ABET Degree and those with advanced credentials. Some background in construction or agriculture is helpful. Some travel will be required. Key elements of the position include:
Knowledge of Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD software
Knowledge of material handling and agricultural processing facility layout, meat processing, rendering, bulk storage and other similar facility types.
Knowledge of building envelopes and roofing systems, including cold storage.
Knowledge of structural design of concrete, steel, masonry, timber, cold formed steel, and tanks and silos for storage of granular/liquids
Knowledge of NFPA and IBC standards related to Agri-Industrial facility design.
Able to work independently.
Knowledgeable of building applications, construction methods and relevant building codes
Functional knowledge of Excel, Word, or other office type software.
JOB DUTIES:
Requires interaction and coordination with other design disciplines to complete design tasks. Must occasionally travel to client sites for gathering information and measurements of existing facilities. Must be able to trouble-shoot computer software problems when they arise. Although the work is performed within an office environment, there are occasional site visits that require ladder, stair and scaffold climbing in manufacturing and/or process structures as high as 150 ft tall. Must be able to respond to both audible and visible plant alarms. Must be able to tolerate seasonal extremes in temperature or humidity on site visits. May occasionally require working near hazardous equipment and machinery and exposure to noise, dust, gas or fumes during site visits; must wear PPE, including fall protection harness at times and these items, along with routine safety training will be provided.
