Senior Survey CAD Technician
Land Surveying | Princeton, NJ (Hybrid Field/Office)
The Opportunity
A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering and surveying firm is seeking a Senior Survey CAD Technician to join its growing Survey Department in Princeton, NJ.
This role is ideal for a survey professional who has been serious about building a long-term career in land surveying and is ready to take the next step. The right candidate will play a key role in production, QA/QC, and coordination with field crews — with a clear path toward licensure and future leadership responsibilities for those who want it.
While this is primarily an office-based role, occasional field work is required to support project needs and maintain strong coordination between office and field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage survey mapping deliverables while supporting department goals related to quality, efficiency, and profitability
- Perform survey computations and QA/QC reviews prior to final sign-off by the Professional Land Surveyor
- Interpret design drawings, plats, zoning data, and contractual documents to support survey execution
Produce:
- Boundary, ALTA, and topographic surveys
- Existing conditions surveys
- Minor and major subdivision plans (preliminary & final)
- Construction stakeout, plot plans, final and as-built surveys
- Coordinate with field crews and other CAD technicians assigned to projects
- Conduct deed, record, and survey research as required
- Assist with client coordination and technical communication
- Support cost estimating and proposal development
- Participate in field work on an as-needed basis
- Contribute to continuous improvement of survey workflows and standards
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of professional experience in land surveying, civil drafting, and/or civil design
- Valid Driver’s License (field work required on an as-needed basis)
- Strong understanding of survey fundamentals, workflows, and deliverables
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- Professional credentials such as NSPS CST, LSIT, or PLS (or actively pursuing licensure)
- FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License is a plus
- Experience working in both field and office environments
Proficiency with:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation
- Survey and point cloud software such as Trimble Business Center (TBC), Leica Infinity, Cyclone, Register 360, CloudWorx, Carlson, or similar
- Exposure to laser scanning processing and registration is a plus
- Familiarity with modern survey equipment (robotic total stations, GPS, laser scanners, etc.)
- Strong understanding of State Plane Coordinate Systems and grid-to-ground conversions
- Solid technical math skills (geometry, trigonometry, survey calculations)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compensation
Target Pay Range: $33 – $45 per hour
(Higher-level compensation or title may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.)
