    Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer supporting our Enterprise Applications team and reporting to the Enterprise Applications Manager.

    This position can be based in the Dallas, New York or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities will be responsible for the operational product management of enterprise-level cloud solutions and their integration—primarily focusing on the Microsoft 365 suite and select AI-powered enterprise applications. Key responsibilities include managing the implementation, maintenance, and lifecycle optimization of Microsoft cloud services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Entra ID, and AI-enabled tools like Microsoft Copilot for M365 and NetDocuments ndMax. The role ensures these technologies are seamlessly integrated into the firm’s existing infrastructure, delivering smooth user experience and driving ongoing enhancements through user feedback and performance analysis.

    The Systems Engineer will also play a critical role in maintaining the availability and performance of mission-critical applications, overseeing their daily operations, security, and support. This includes serving as the secondary engineer for the firm’s document management system. We are seeking a proactive, self-motivated professional with a strong understanding of enterprise systems and cloud technologies. As a member of the Enterprise Applications team, you’ll work with both established and emerging technologies in support of a dynamic, global organization.

    Key responsibilities of this position include:

    Systems Administration

    • Support and maintain enterprise-level AI applications.
    • Support and maintain NetDocuments, the firm’s Document Management System.
    • Monitor, secure, identify and qualify system patches/updates for consideration.
    • Install, update, and maintain supported systems as necessary.
    • Perform security audits, report findings, and take corrective action.
    • Administration of M365 environment.
    • Administration of Collab platforms: Teams, Box, etc.
    • Participate in on-call and after-hours rotation schedule.
    • Process structured/unstructured datasets to meet business needs.

    Collaboration & Customer Service

    • Assist IT Operations teams to provide third level support for assigned applications.
    • Assist as needed in the day-to-day maintenance of the systems supported by the Enterprise Applications team.
    • Contribute to written material as appropriate to IT standard operation procedures manual.
    • Collaborate with team members to handle escalated tickets in a timely manner.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes.

    Qualifications (experience, knowledge, skills & abilities):

    • Four-year college degree or substantial, equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in IT operations, preferably in a professional service environment.
    • IT certifications - Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert preferred.
    • Technical background that demonstrates expertise in the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise systems.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management, and outside business partners.
    • Proficiency in at least three of the following technologies is required:
      • M365 (Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, PowerBI, OneDrive for Business)
      • AI technologies: M365 Copilot, Copilot Studio
      • Data Analytics (working with structured/unstructured datasets)
      • Scripting and Automation (Powershell)
      • Power Automate
      • Document Management Systems (NetDocuments)
    • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
    • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills.
    • Ability to work well under pressure, facilitate solutions and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned.

    _The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is $130,000 to $150,000.
    The anticipated base salary range for this position in New York is $130,000 to $155,000.

    _The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed.     The Systems Engineer responsibilities include:

    • Support technical interface and coordination with stakeholders on all processes involved in Systems Engineering. System engineering tasks include: requirements definition, functional analysis, trade studies, design synthesis, configuration management, verification and validation, and cost, risk, and logistics analyses, Technical Performance Management, and Performance Verification (V&V).
    • Provides input to technical oversight of research, development, design, and integration efforts.
    • Support the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) through demonstrated understanding of MCSC Change Initiation Processes.
    • Support the development, revision, and update of systems engineering documents such as Information Support Plan, Systems Engineering Plan, Test and Evaluation Plan, and Systems Performance Specifications.
    • Coordinate and support Engineering Integrated Product Teams and develop meeting minutes as required.
    • Support coordination and development, and execution of Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR).
    • Assist with conducting Functional and Configuration Audits. Develop closeout memoranda.
    • Assist in identifying, assessing, and documenting technical risks.
    • Assist in providing engineering input to the Program Integrated Government Schedules.
    • Provide engineering input to program briefs.
    • Broad understanding of system engineering management processes and experience in system engineering practice.
