Senior Tax Manager – Review & Client Services

    Santa Barbara, CA | In-Office | $185,000 – $235,000 base + up to 10% discretionary bonus

A growing, integrated tax and wealth management firm is adding a Senior Tax Manager to its Santa Barbara office. The tax practice has deep local roots and long-standing client relationships, and the team has stayed remarkably stable through the firm’s recent growth. Clients get a more connected approach to their financial lives, and the tax team has broader resources than a standalone CPA firm.

    The Role

You’ll be the senior technical reviewer and signer on the tax team. You’ll review federal and state returns across individual, partnership, S-Corp, C-Corp, trust, and estate filings, and sign returns as part of the review process. You’ll be the go-to resource when staff hit a technical question, and a familiar face for long-standing clients who still prefer to sit down in person. The firm values quality of work over billable-hour metrics.

This is an in-office position in Santa Barbara, with occasional remote days. The firm wants someone who is present and part of the day-to-day team.

    What They’re Looking For

    • Active CPA license (California preferred)
    • 12+ years of public accounting and tax experience, with deep review and signing experience
    • Strong technical depth across individual and entity returns, with trust and estate experience a plus
    • A technical go-to for staff, with informal mentoring of junior preparers
    • Strong client communication skills, and comfort meeting clients in person
    • Local to Santa Barbara or genuinely open to being in-office

    Good to Have

    • CCH Axcess Tax and Engagement experience (not required, since the firm cares most about tax knowledge and review depth)
    • IRS audit or controversy experience

    Compensation & Logistics

    • $185,000 – $235,000 base, plus up to a 10% discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance
    • CPE allowance and license reimbursement
    • Medical, dental, and vision, plus a 401(k) with company match
    • Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate outside the area
