    We are representing a leading employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm that is actively seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join their Saint Paul, MN office.     This position offers the opportunity to lead technical teams, manage multidisciplinary water resource projects, and serve as a trusted liaison to municipal clients, watershed districts, and public agencies.

    Position Summary:

    The Senior Water Resources Engineer will oversee project execution and staff across water resource and civil engineering assignments. Project responsibilities include stormwater planning, flood control, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water quality analysis, and design of stormwater treatment systems, stream restoration, and other hydraulic infrastructure. This role requires close coordination with clients, regulatory agencies, and public stakeholders—frequent evening meetings should be expected.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead project management and supervision of engineers, scientists, and technical staff.

    • Conduct and review hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modeling to inform design solutions.

    • Oversee the development of technical reports, construction plans, and specifications.

    • Analyze existing stormwater infrastructure and design resilient conveyance systems to address flooding and climate impacts.

    • Guide the implementation of best management practices (BMPs) such as infiltration basins, iron-enhanced sand filters, and stormwater wetlands.

    • Support watershed district rule compliance, plan reviews, and permitting documentation.

    • Contribute to capital improvement project planning, feasibility assessments, and design development.

    • Serve as a technical expert and mentor within the water resources engineering group.

    • Assist with business development, including responding to RFPs and maintaining client relationships.

    Technical Skill Areas:

    • Use of stormwater modeling software for hydrologic/hydraulic and water quality applications.

    • Model calibration using observed field data (stream flow, water quality, etc.).

    • GIS, survey, and monitoring data processing for model input.

    • Plan review for compliance with floodplain, wetland, erosion control, and stormwater rules.

    • Client and regulatory communication for permitting and project coordination.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering (or Civil Engineering with water emphasis)

    • 10+ years of experience focused on water resources engineering

    • 5+ years of experience managing client relationships and contributing to business development

    • Proven leadership and team management capabilities

    • Strong technical writing and communication skills

    • Expertise in hydrology, water quality, and stormwater infrastructure design

    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in a related field

    • Familiarity with ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, and other modeling tools

    Compensation & Benefits:

    • Starting Salary: $108,000+ based on experience and qualifications
