    POSITION SUMMARY 

    The Development Officer reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, and assisting with corporate and foundation pipelines. Responsibilities include the identification, strategic cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and other activities related to seeking major investments in the organization. The Development Officer will advance the organization's initiatives by working closely with the programming teams to identify support opportunities for donors and industry partners at all levels.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES  

    The Development Officer is a key member of the fundraising team, and is expected to collaborate with colleagues across the organization to improve the accuracy of Salesforce data, to develop quality engagement and stewardship opportunities, and to maximize the giving experience for donors. The Development Officer plans and implements the annual giving, major giving, and planned giving fundraising programs including, but not limited to, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The Development Officer also assists with building relationships, making asks, and stewarding industry partners. 

    General 

    • Work with development and operations staff to create and implement fundraising plans 
    • Work with social media team to support fundraising programs 
    • Special projects as needed

     

    Prospect and Data Management  

    • Maintain donor prospect pipeline 
    • Research donors' ability to give to identify major giving prospects 
    • Utilize database to manage and track prospects and donors 
    • Implement donor stewardship plan  
    • Make thank you phone calls and manage acknowledgement process 
    • Increase donor retention

     

    Fundraising 

    • Engage portfolio of prospects through email, phone, Zoom, and face-to-face meetings when applicable to educate them about Sepsis Alliance priorities   
    • Expand the annual giving and major gifts programs ($1,000+) 
    • Create giving reports to track progress each month 
    • Analyze fundraising outcomes to determine effectiveness 
    • Plan and implement strategies to convert event donors to organization donors 
    • Implement strategies to thank and engage event donors 
    • Assist with fundraising and event management and planning 
    • Create and maintain pitch documents for industry involvement 
    • Assist with company research and prioritization of outreach to potential partners

     

    Experience and Qualifications: 

    • Computer savvy 
    • At least 1 year of face-to-face fundraising in a non-profit preferred 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills 
    • Excellent writing and communication skills 
    • Database experience – Salesforce preferred 
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously 
    • Ability to manage positive relationships with board members, funders, staff, partners 
    • Ability to work independently, manage own projects and timelines 
    • Interest and ability to suggest new projects and process improvements 
    • Genuine interest in making change happen and doing some good in the world 
    • Education, experience, or interest in not for profit management and/or healthcare a plus

     

    Sepsis Alliance has a small office in San Diego, CA. Current open positions have the option to work in-office in San Diego, or remote.
