  • Responsibilities

    Our team is looking for a qualified Veterinary Technician and natural leader to complete our Sequoia Animal Hospital team. This person will be responsible for training our staff, controlling the operational flow and pushing out team to be their very best. This person must be a registered Veterinary Technician with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in a similar role.

    Technical Skills Required:

    • IV catheter placement and monitoring, venipuncture, critical care

    • Intubation of animals

    • Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging and storage of controlled drugs.

    • Dental Procedures

    • Perform common outpatient procedures (i.e., nail trims, ear cleanings, anal gland expression, etc)

    • Operate and maintain equipment pertinent to carrying out duties, including but not limited to laboratory equipment, anesthesia and dental and radiographic equipment

    • Perform and document in-house lab tests, skin/ear cytology, snap tests, etc.

    • Review the appointment schedule and prep vets and staff for procedures.

    • Assess hospitalized patient status, review patient plan, perform patient’s treatments according to the veterinarian’s orders and document such activity.

    • Perform emergency procedures including shock assessment and initiation of treatment, control of hemorrhage, establishing an airway by intubation and providing ventilation with oxygen, applying temporary bandages or splints and clipping and cleaning wounds.

    • Recognize patients with potentially contagious diseases and follow isolation procedures. Be familiar with zoonotic diseases.

    • Assist with humane euthanasia as requested.

    • Properly calculate medication volumes and rates of administration. Administer injectable, topical and oral medications to patient.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, and/or experience.
    • Two or more years of experience in the Veterinary community utilizing the above skills.
    • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) required.
    • Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires a lot of lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion.
    • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
