Service Department Manager – Commercial Equipment City Food Equipment – Chicago, IL / Lombard, IL / Wisconsin

Job Summary
City Food Equipment, a leading commercial restaurant equipment company serving the Chicagoland area since 1985, is seeking an experienced Service Department Manager to lead and oversee our commercial equipment service operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing technicians, coordinating service calls, and ensuring efficient, high-quality service delivery to our customers. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically knowledgeable, and experienced in managing service teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily service department operations (scheduling, dispatching, workflow)
Answer incoming service calls and schedule repair appointments
Manage service calendar and technician assignments
Coordinate team meetings to ensure communication and accountability
Ensure technicians are prepared with proper parts and tools
Assist customers with service tickets and repair inquiries
Monitor technician performance, paperwork accuracy, and service efficiency
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and corrective actions
Prepare quotes, invoices, and process payments
Maintain service records, parts tracking, and reporting
Collaborate with other departments to support overall operations
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or technical training preferred)
3+ years of mechanical experience (restaurant equipment, HVAC, automotive, or similar)
2+ years of supervisory or management experience
Strong knowledge of equipment, parts, and service processes
Ability to create estimates, work orders, and calculate labor
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Ability to work in a warehouse environment
Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a service department (restaurant equipment or similar industry)
Familiarity with service/dispatch software
Experience improving processes and operational efficiency
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
