Job Title: Service Technician Department: Service Reports To: Service Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure customer safety and satisfaction. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship. The position requires interaction with customers, technical knowledge of vehicle systems, and adherence to all safety and regulatory guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of systems including engines, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC.
· Accurately document findings, recommended repairs, and completed work on repair orders.
· Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid exchanges, and filter replacements.
· Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
· Follow manufacturer specifications and dealership standards for all repairs.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
· Communicate effectively with service advisors regarding vehicle conditions and needed
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
· A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
· Experience in vehicle maintenance or lubrication services is not required, but prior experience is a plus.
· Technical training or completion of related coursework from a college or trade school is desirable but not mandatory.
· Chrysler Mechanic preferred.
· ASE Certifications: State of Michigan or ASE certified in multiple repair categories including but not limited to Electrical, engine repair and front-end suspension.
· Phase/level 3 preferred, will accept level 2.
· Paid training.

Skills:
· Effective communication skills to interact with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
· Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
· Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and computer systems in vehicles.
· Ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
· Effectively communicating with customers and colleagues.
· Meticulous approach to ensure all repairs are completed accurately.
· Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various positions.
· Collaborating effectively with other technicians and service advisors.
· Valid Driver's License: Must have reliable transportation and clean driving record.
Work Environment:
· The Service Technician will primarily work in a vehicle service area or shop, which may involve exposure to vehicle exhaust, chemicals, oils, lubricants, and other automotive fluids.
· Employees in this position may be exposed to high levels of noise, vibrations, and moving mechanical parts.
· Proper safety gear must be always worn, including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection where necessary.
FLSA Status Clarification:
This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek. The employee is entitled to meal and rest breaks in accordance with applicable state and federal labor.
