    Job Description

    As a staff engineer in the App Engine team you will be a key member of a diverse team of software engineers. You will help coach and mentor other engineers, design and develop proof of concepts to implement new features and guide the architecture for the App Engine business on the ServiceNow platform.  You will also lead small to medium sized projects throughout the SDLC lifecycle. In addition, you will help shape the future of the team’s culture by practicing and encouraging development best practices, participating in code reviews, and aligning the team to organizational goals and objectives.

     

    WHAT YOU GET TO DO IN THIS ROLE:

    • Build highly reliable and scalable cloud-based applications.
    • Lead and coordinate work cross functionally to improve architecture, developing process and mentoring developers from other teams.
    • Work with a strong set of teams to improve developing and deploying applications and customizations on the ServiceNow platform.
    • Design and architect tools, libraries, and frameworks with long term platform implications for high modularity, extensibility, configurability, and maintainability
    • Help deliver outstanding low code application development experiences for our customers
    • Role model and mentor engineers in software development best practices through leadership, code reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.

    TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU HAVE:

    • 7-10 years of experience designing and building scalable reusable products/components, with at least 3 in a lead or senior team role
    • Customer-focused
    • Good attitude and ability to work with cross-functional teams
    • Demonstrated experience in leading complex development efforts
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience in application development building enterprise-grade cloud applications in a high transaction environment.
    • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
    • Firm understanding of best practices for object-oriented and modularized software with a particular emphasis on Java. Functional programming is a bonus.
    • Strong understanding of web technologies: HTTP, REST, SOAP, OAuth. Familiarity with JavaScript libraries such as AngularJS, ReactJS, Backbone.js, Node.js, and jQuery are bonuses.
    • Experience with open-source technologies like Linux, Apache/Tomcat, and MySQL
    • Experience designing and implementing highly interactive user interfaces for high volume web applications
    • Relational Database Experience: Developing on, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance of: MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server
    • Bachelor’s/Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline

    FLEXIBLE 

    A flexible work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office and will work from their assigned workplace location roughly 3 days/week or less (generally around 40-60% of the work week). Flexible employees may choose to work the remaining working time from their workplace location or home. Flexible employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.

    REMOTE

    A remote work persona is defined as an employee who performs their responsibilities exclusively outside of a ServiceNow workplace and is not contracted or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office, including those whose place of work (pursuant to their terms and conditions of employment) is their home. Remote employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
