    Job Description

    We are seeking a Network Administratorwith 5+ years experience to join our amazing Shawnee Communications team! The ideal candidate will possess, at minimum, a valid CCNA certification in R/S.  Candidate will oversee all aspects of our Telecom Network both internal and external.  This position requires experience with Linux & Windows Servers, Firewalls, VPN, SIP, Routing & Switching.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in network design and implementation.
    • Provide network support with a variety of operating systems.
    • Install and configure computer network equipment.
    • Maintain network connectivity of all computer workstations.
    • Provide network support to users.
    • Maintain servers and associated hardware, applications, services, and settings.
    • Develop and monitor policies for the use of network resources.
    • Implement and manage disaster recovery and back-up.
    • Evaluate and recommend security improvements and system upgrades.
    • Monitor network to ensure optimal performance.
    • Create and maintain network users/permissions.
    • Test release of products to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility.
    • Create technical support documentation for systems and applications.

    ​QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts
    • Proven network engineering, network operations, and network performance analysis skills
    • Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities
    • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
    • Knowledge of computing infrastructures
    • Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools
    • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving ability
    • Proficiency with scripting languages
    • Strong interpersonal skills to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical issues

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or work experience and IT Certifications)
    • 5+ years experience in a network administration role
    • Previous experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012, and later preferred
    • Previous experience with Cisco switches and routers preferred
    • Linux Administration
    • CCNA or CCNP certification a plus

    Company Description

    Shawnee Communications is a rural telecommunications company serving Southern and Central Illinois, with offices in Equality and Lovington. Since the late 1940s, Shawnee Communications has emphasized the development, service, and maintenance of modern communications technology for residents and businesses in rural communities in Southern Illinois. In 2005, Shawnee began developing the foundation for future technologies, including a multi-year effort to deploy fiber optic cable to remain compatible with emerging technologies. After years of work, FTTH conversions in our Southern Illinois exchanges were completed in late 2015. In 2016, Shawnee purchased Moultrie Independent Telephone Company (MITCO) and its subsidiaries, located in Lovington, Illinois. Continuing their focus on modern technology in the communications industry, Shawnee immediately began planning a fiber to the home (FTTH) project for the MITCO service area. After months of work, FTTH conversions in Lovington were completed in late 2017.
