    We are currently seeking a Full-time (Temporary)  Shelter Readiness Specialist to support planning and preparedness efforts to increase disaster sheltering capabilities in the Commonwealth and provide continuity during daily and emergency operations while the State Shelter Coordinator is on leave.

    Work hours:

    • 40 hours per week, excluding state holidays.
    • During emergency activations may be required to work 12-hour shifts (days and/or nights), including weekends and holidays, with limited advance notice.

    Location:

    • Most work will be performed via telework.
    • Occasional travel may be required for meetings or site visits.
    • During emergency activations, may be assigned to work in person at the Virginia Emergency Operations Center in Richmond

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate with state and local partners to advance the Commonwealth Shelter Framework and strengthen statewide disaster sheltering capabilities.
    • Reestablish and manage efforts to identify and evaluate potential large-capacity (“mega”) shelter sites across the Commonwealth, including coordinating facility assessments and documenting operational considerations.

    Required KSAs:

    • Ability to analyze information, track data, and identify trends to support planning and decision-making.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, and take initiative to complete projects.

    Preferred but not required:

    • Experience with disaster shelter operations.
    • Experience serving in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or on an Incident Management Team (IMT).
    • Experience facilitating collaborative planning, training, or exercises.
