    Shelter Specialist

    Job Type: PRN - On Call 15-39 hours per week, as agreed upon

    Reports to: Shelter Manager

    Skills

    Shelter Specialists provide support to shelter residents during the evening, overnight, and weekend hours. A general summary of responsibilities includes providing a safe, clean environment, supporting and assisting guests residing in shelter, and documenting any safety/security concerns or rule violations * Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Experience working with the homeless population preferred

    Strong organizational and communication skills.

    Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while working with clients.

    Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced, and growth-oriented environment while maintaining a positive solution-oriented and client-centered approach.

    Ability to work days, evenings and/or overnights as needed and agreed upon

    Ability to navigate Microsoft Office products, specifically, Word and Excel.

    Reliable transportation to get to your designated work site.

    Ability to lift 25 pounds independently.

    Ability to walk, climb or descend stairs, kneel, bend and twist.

    Responsibilities

    Monitor the perimeter of the shelter to maintain a safe and clean environment.

    Complete new client intakes and documentation.

    Supervise and support meals served in Shelter

    Communicate Shelter needs/issues via phone call or email to Assistant Shelter Director as needed

    Maintain contact with all clients in residence

    Monitor and request supplies via Housing Programs Specialist

    Make referrals to appropriate providers and resources as needed

    Monitor Shelter activities and residents for safety

    Implement conflict resolution skills among all shelter residents, guests/visitors, and staff as needed

    Maintain accurate and on-going documentation (shift notes) on record keeping forms and reports

    Respond to client and staff emergencies as needed
