  • Responsibilities

    Perform a variety of complex inspections on fabricated sheet metal parts and bonded structures to meet customer and Piper quality standards.  Use various tools specific to trade such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges  and other equipment.  Work independently or with minimum supervision.

    • Work from complicated blueprints, Material Review Boards, dispositions, Piper Process Specifications (PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Purchase Specifications (PS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations, Quality Assurance Manuals (QAM), various handbooks, travelers, engineering/tooling/rework orders, and written/verbal instruction.
    • Insure that only the latest approved applicable drawings, specifications, Quality Manual and instructions are used during inspection and testing.
    • Use various precision measuring instruments.
    • Perform First Part and Conformity inspections as required.
    • Accept/reject according to specifications.
    • Examine defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommend change or modification.
    • May be required to draw patterns
    • Monitor rework/repair.
    • Note and report deviations from established specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrections.
    • Provide written report regarding inspection and testing results as required.
    • Monitor production activities to ensure tolerances are maintained.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and reports of all inspections and test conducted.
    • Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, tooling fixtures, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor.
    • Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
    • Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to perform the duties of the job applying basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to use geometry, shop math, and handbook formulas to calculate dimensions and convert angular to linear dimensions.

     

    Required Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Preferred 2yr degree and one to three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires the use of specialized knowledge along with the ability to interpret drawings and/or blueprints.
