    JOB SUMMARY: The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations and all related duties in regards to ultrasound services. Performs duties under the direction of a Radiologist. Responsible for coverage, scheduling, stock, patient care, and quality improvement. Works with patients of all ages including; neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
    1. High school graduate or equivalent.
    2. Current and valid ARDMS license preferred.
    3. Certificate or diploma from an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
    4. Current BLS required within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
    5. 1-2 years' experience in an acute care setting within the last three years preferred.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    1. Consistently uses two patient identifiers when performing exams and procedures.
    2. Responsible for the safety and welfare of patients while in the department. Understands and is prepared for patient emergencies.
    3. Adapts to constantly changing healthcare environment by recognizing opportunities for improvement and embracing change to bring about improvements. Exercises independent thinking, judgment, and decision making and accepts accountability and responsibility for decisions and consequences.
    4. Provides efficient and prompt care in a courteous and professional manner and observes patient confidentiality at all times.
    5. Is in compliance with information contained in the Infection Manual ( i.e. OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines ), and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment ( i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles ) and good hand washing techniques.
    6. Observes patient and equipment during procedures and understands proper procedure for reporting unusual occurrences or equipment failure.
    7. Participate on department and hospital quality teams. Responsible for education, training, and marketing of ultrasound services.
    8. Assists physicians with special tests and procedures. Follows proper procedure for site marking, informed consent, and time out.
    9. Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility.
    10. Uses immobilization and support devices when necessary.
    11. Understands the functions of various computer systems within the radiology department and appropriate downtime procedures. Knows process for whom to call during system failures.
    12. Recognizes signs of abuse and reports appropriately to the Adult Protective Services.
    13. Cleans and disinfects room and equipment and prepares room, equipment, and materials for patients as needed for various procedures. Maintains necessary room stock for studies.
    14. Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources of time, equipment, personnel and supplies.
    15. Complies with all policies, procedures, and related protocols as established by the radiology department and/or the organization.
    16. Attends mandatory departmental and organizational meetings.
    17. Maintain regular attendance.
    18. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
