  • Responsibilities

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Shipping & Receiving (S&R) Attendant is responsible for incoming and outgoing deliveries for our customers and works with the Operations and Logistics team in a fast-paced and critical position. The incumbent will operate a forklift with the utmost care to ensure efficiency and safety. This position involves driving around warehouses and other areas within the plant.

    The operator will be responsible for ensuring that material and products are always in the right place to achieve maximum efficiency. The S&R Attendant must have familiarity with shipping/loading related processes using standard forklifts and pallet jack equipment.

    Key duties include but not limited to the following:

    • Documents arrival, departure, and movement and storage of products, checks trucking manifests and bills of lading, maintains inventory, and tracks fulfillment of customer and vendor orders.
    • Manage shipping pallet organization; ensuring that the highest quality pallets are used for shipments.
    • Rotates stock so that oldest items are shipped or sold first.
    • Loads and unloads product from and onto tractor trailers and other freight carriers and/or conveyer belts.
    • Stacks crates, pallets, drums, or other material in the warehouse.
    • Ensures the safe and efficient movement of products.
    • Checks that loads are centered and properly stacked.
    • Determines when repairs need to be made on equipment.
    • Quality assurance (QA) duties, including reporting product damage and shortages.
    • Utilizes radio frequency (RF) scanning equipment to track inventory.
    • Shrink wraps goods or otherwise secures them and prepares them for transport.
    • Weighs and records weights of products.
    • Analyzes productions schedules to determine timely transportation of materials and products.
    • Follows safety regulations and company guidelines.

    The forklift operator may also be assigned to other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by plant management.

    ** General Requirements:**

    • High school diploma/GED or an equivalent number of years of education and forklift operations experience.
    • Must be proficient with numbers and have math skills to calculate loads and understand the amounts on a bill of lading.
    • Previous warehouse experience.
    • Prior experience as a forklift operator.
    • Forklift or heavy machinery certification.
    • Completion of forklift driving course, a plus.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Requirements: Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to read and understand packaging, shipping documents, and safety guidelines.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to perform basic math.
    • Excellent hand-eye coordination, peripheral vision, and ability with spatial relationships.
    • Efficient individual with excellent time management skills.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Working knowledge of basic tools and vehicle maintenance a plus.

    Must pass Department of Homeland Security background check and pre-placement physical (including respirator) and pre-employment drug-screen.

    Working Conditions:

    • Requires climbing, standing, bending and lifting heavy objects in awkward and confined spaces using proper lifting and rigging techniques.
    • Speaking & Hearing: Interact with all plant groups as well as the plants environmental consultants.
    • Seeing: Must be able to read and follow written instructions.
    • Subject to working near moving parts of heavy machinery and high voltage equipment where the use of appropriate protective/safety equipment is required.
    • Subject to working at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
    • Work includes indoor and outdoor environment.
    • May be subject to after hour call-ins.
