YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Own Shipt production data and database systems. Responsible for backup and recovery, encryption, security, durability and persistence.
• Design, develop and maintain data for production and pre-production environments
• Communicate effectively and get to the root cause of any issue
• Deliver consistent, fast performance from a variety of data stores
• Own the management, provisioning, and security for all data stores
• Collect and analyze metrics to improve system scalability
• Design, improve and document processes
• Support your team through encouragement and by example

REQUIREMENTS

• You have significant Postgres and Linux experience
• You have experience building and administering high performing databases
• You have expert level mastery of SQL
• You understand ACID properties of databases and when to break them
• You have a deep love of automation and an aversion for the mundane or routine
• You have experience with distributed architectures along with a broad range of data technologies - relational databases, key/value stores, messages queues, distributed and eventually consistent storage
• You have experience scaling databases horizontally and vertically
• You are excited to learn and master new skills
• You have a BS in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience

NICE TO HAVES

• Experience with Amazon RDS, Redshift, Redis, Memcache, HDFS
• Experience with Python, Ruby, or Go
