ABOUT THIS ROLE:

Shogun Enterprises is searching for a design leader to coach, build, and inspire our product design team by leveraging expertise, hands-on work and influence to create a user centered product. Our ideal candidate is a leader and a doer who has a track record of designing and building products in a fast paced organization.  You’re a creator and strategic thinker who is excellent at communicating. You bring experience managing and mentoring designers as well as setting up efficient tools and processes. You have a strong visual aesthetic and an ability to create great experiences. You are passionate about the customer, their user perspectives and the journey they are on. You have an understanding of how big and little improvements drive a business forward - and you can do more than just come up with big ideas, you know how to get them done.  You will manage our growing design team and report directly to the SVP of Product.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Your day to day will involve designing holistic user experiences and visuals for our customers across both web and mobile. You will oversee design and will work closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, Customer Support, Marketing and our customers to take our product experience to the next level. Time will also be spent zooming out to provide big picture design leadership. You will own design language, systems and operations to ensure Shogun achieves accelerated growth through consistent and high-quality design standards. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create and lead product design ideas from concept to the implementation of consistent and high quality experiences. 
• Identify problems, diagnose root causes, and design solutions to improve our products and process.
• Manage design and monitor the quality of the work produced as well as grow the team as we scale - creating a learning environment where designers grow and expand skill-sets, techniques and tools.
• Oversee visual design across all platforms for consistency. Establish visual design guidelines and standards.
• Approach design challenges holistically, considering all parts of the experience including UI/UX, business, technical, and legal requirements.
• Deeply understand and champion the needs of a diverse user base consisting of consumers, small business merchants, and business partners.
• Work closely with leadership on the future state of the product

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years of experience designing UX and shipping products.
• 2+ years hiring, managing or mentoring designers
• Expertise in UI, UX, with a strong sense of visual design. 
• Successful track record and ability to influence through design. Mentality to always push for better designs, even with constraints
• Excellent communications skills (both oral, written, and interpersonal)
• Experience working in a fast paced environment
• Excellent prototyping and design tool knowledge (we use Figma) 
• Ability to reduce complex problems down to flexible, intuitive patterns and solutions.
• Cross-platform design experience (iOS, Android, Web)
• Experience working at a strategic level to influence design across an entire organization
• Developed or worked with a successful Product Design System.
• Hardworking collaborative attitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working with data to inform design decisions
• Experience creating marketing collateral or managing marketing designers
• An in-depth understanding of human-centered design methods, design thinking techniques, and design tools
• Knowledge of common UI frameworks like React Native / Web
• Experiencing working in a B2B2C or Fintech company is a plus
